"There they are!" came a familiar voice, and suddenly we were surrounded by a gaggle of my closest friends, all wearing matching mischievous grins.
"Well, well, well," drawled Winter, her eyes twinkling with barely contained glee. "Look what the cat dragged in."
I felt my cheeks flush as they crowded around us, their gazes raking over us in a way that made me want to squirm.
"So?" prompted Sarah, waggling her eyebrows suggestively. "Spill the beans! How was the honeymoon?"
A chorus of laughter erupted around us, and I found myself at a loss for words.
How could I possibly put into words the sheer bliss, the all-consuming passion that had been our honeymoon?
Luka, ever my knight in shining armor, came to my rescue. "Now, not pry?" he said smoothly, his arm tightening around me. "never kiss and tell."
More laughter followed, accompanied by a few good-natured groans and eye-rolls.
"Oh, come on!" protested Winter. "You can't just leave us hanging like that!"
I shot her a pleading look, silently begging her to drop the subject.
The last thing I wanted was to recount the most private, intimate moments of our honeymoon to our friends.
Thankfully, Luka seemed to sense my discomfort. "Over drinks?" he suggested, effectively diverting their attention.
"So, are you two lovebirds finally ready to spill all the juicy details?" Sarah asked with a mischievous grin as we settled around the kitchen island, drinks in hand.
I shot her a warning look, but it was no use – my friends were like a pack of wolves, circling their prey and waiting to pounce.
I could already feel the heat creeping up my neck at the thought of divulging the intimate details of our honeymoon.
Winter, never one to mince words, jumped right in with both feet.
"Oh, come on, we want to know everything!" she crowed, leaning forward conspiratorially. "Did you join the Mile High Club on the flight over? Get a little...turbulence, if you know what I mean?"
My cheeks flamed bright red as peals of laughter erupted around me. Even Luka looked slightly taken aback by Winter's brazen line of questioning, though his lips twitched with barely contained amusement.
Of course he would find this whole situation utterly hilarious.
"never kiss and tell," he replied smoothly, throwing me a wink that did absolutely nothing to calm the riotous butterflies currently taking up residence in my stomach.
That wink alone was enough to set my pulse racing with delicious memories.
"Ugh, you're no fun," Winter groaned in mock disappointment. "Sarah, back me up here!"
Sarah's eyes danced with unholy glee as she turned her attention towards me. "Okay, if he won't spill, you have to give us something! What was the most adventurous place you two...you know..." She waggled her eyebrows suggestively.
I opened and closed my mouth, utterly at a loss for words as my mind raced with a million different memories – each one more scorchingly intimate than the last.
How could I even begin to describe the sheer passion, the all-consuming desire that had driven us to explore every inch of our little slice of paradise?
"Well?" Winter prodded impatiently. "Don't leave us hanging!"
Luka's hand found mine beneath the counter, giving it a reassuring squeeze as he leaned in close. "steer this ...respectable direction?" he murmured, his warm breath fanning across my flushed cheek.
Just his proximity was enough to set my skin tingling with delicious anticipation.
Bless him for trying to rescue me, but my friends were like a pair of starving wolves, and they could smell blood in the water.
There would be no escaping their relentless interrogation.
"Oh no you don't!" Sarah crowed triumphantly. "Not until we get at least one good story out of you two!"
I shot Luka a pleading look, silently begging him to put me out of my misery. He merely chuckled, that infuriatingly sexy grin playing about his lips.
That grin alone was enough to make me weak in the knees, to rekindle the smoldering embers of desire that seemed to burn for him constantly.
" you insist?" he relented, turning to face the others with an air of utmost nonchalance. "The details a bit...explicit."
Sarah and Winter exchanged a giddy look, practically vibrating with anticipation. I, on the other hand, felt like I might spontaneously combust from sheer mortification.
How was I supposed to keep my cool when he was about to recount our most intimate moments in lurid detail?
By the time he'd finished, Winter looked like she might pass out, while Sarah fanned herself furiously, her cheeks stained a brilliant crimson.
"Well?" Luka prompted, his eyes dancing with wicked amusement. "Was that adventurous?"
There was a beat of stunned silence before the room erupted into raucous laughter and catcalls. I buried my burning face in my hands, torn between wanting to throttle my shameless husband and kiss him senseless for being so deliciously, unapologetically himself.
As the laughter finally died down, Sarah shook her head in grudging admiration. "Damn, you two are wild! I don't know whether to be impressed or utterly scandalized."
"little," Luka replied with a roguish wink.
That wink alone was enough to set my heart racing anew.
Winter, having finally regained her powers of speech, fixed me with a look of utter incredulity. "Please tell me he's exaggerating at least a little bit? Because if not, I may just have to start calling you the Honeymoon Harlot!"
A fresh wave of laughter rolled through the room, and despite my lingering embarrassment, I couldn't help but join in. These were my closest friends, after all – if I couldn't share some of the wildest, most intimate details of my honeymoon with them, who could I share them with?
As the night wore on and the drinks flowed freely, the questions only grew more outrageous and the stories more salacious. But through it all, Luka's hand remained firmly entwined with mine, his presence a steady anchor in the midst of the riotous chaos.
And when we finally tumbled into bed in the wee hours of the morning, deliciously spent and aching in all the right ways, I knew that no matter what adventures – or misadventures – lay ahead, I would face them all with my husband by my side.
After all, what was life without a few blissful scandals along the way?
