As we returned home from our evening out, a sense of tranquility settled over me like a comforting blanket. However, as we stepped through the threshold of our mansion, Luka's muttered word caught my attention.
"Work," he said simply, pressing a gentle kiss to my forehead before slipping away, his mind already consumed by the demands of his business.
Left alone in the foyer, I made my way to the kitchen, the warmth of Luka's kiss lingering on my skin. As I rounded the corner, I was surprised to find Henry, Luka's trusted associate, waiting for me.
"Ah, Y/N, how is your stay here?" Henry greeted me warmly, his eyes crinkling with genuine interest.
"It's been great," I replied with a smile, though I couldn't help but wonder what had prompted his sudden interest in my well-being.
"Do you have a moment? I wanted to get to know more about my daughter-in-law," Henry continued, his tone inviting as he gestured for me to join him.
Caught off guard by his unexpected request, I hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement. As I settled into a nearby chair, I couldn't help but feel a sense of curiosity mingled with apprehension.
"I actually have something I've been wanting to ask," I said, meeting Henry's gaze as he motioned for a maid to bring us some refreshments.
He raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued. "Is this about the hiccup in our last home?" he inquired.
I shook my head. "No, actually, I just wanted to know more about Luka... I've noticed he seems to be the one who solves all the family's problems, but I don't really understand why."
Henry leaned back in his chair and let out a sigh. "Luka has always been a bit of an enigma in our family. For a long time, we didn't even think he had emotions at all." He paused, taking a sip of his drink. "But then you came along, and something changed in him."
I furrowed my brow, leaning forward. "What do you mean? What changed?"
"Well, before you arrived, Luka was always so stoic, so detached. He'd solve our problems, but it was like he was doing it out of some sense of duty, not because he actually cared." Henry shook his head. "But now, I see him smile more, laugh even. He seems more...alive, somehow."
Henry continued, taking another sip of his drink. "Luka was always so cold, so detached. Solving problems, but without any real feeling behind it. Reminds me a lot of myself, to be honest."
I listened intently, fascinated by this new insight into Luka's character. "So what changed? What made him start to open up?"
Henry shrugged. "That's just it - I'm not entirely sure. But ever since you arrived, I've noticed a shift in him. He smiles more, laughs even. It's like you've somehow managed to thaw that icy exterior of his."
Suddenly, a deep voice spoke up from behind us. "Thawing my exterior, are we?"
We both turned to see Luka standing there, an amused expression on his face. "wasn't aware my emotions was discussion."
Henry chuckled nervously. "Luka, I, uh, we were just discussing your, well, your emotional state, so to speak.
Luka raised a hand, silencing him. " I'm well aware of my reputation" His gaze then shifted to me. "curious to hear your thoughts."
I felt my heart skip a beat as Luka's piercing eyes locked onto mine. "Well, I, um..." I stammered, unsure of how to respond.
Henry cleared his throat. "Actually, if you two don't mind, I think I'll excuse myself for a moment. I, uh, need to check on something." He stood up and quickly made his way out of the room, leaving Luka and I alone.
Luka leaned back in his chair, never breaking eye contact. "So, dear... what... you think of me?" he asked, his voice deeper and rougher than usual.
I swallowed hard, suddenly feeling very aware of his imposing presence. "I think... I think you're big and strong," I managed to say, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Is... is that all you think?" Luka asked again, lowering himself to my gaze. His face was now mere inches from mine, and I could feel the warmth of his breath on my skin.
I felt my heart racing as I struggled to find the right words. "Well, I also think..." I paused, my eyes darting around nervously. "I also think you're... intriguing. There's just something about you that I can't quite figure out."
Luka's lips curled into a faint smile. "Intriguing, hmm?" He reached up and gently traced the outline of my jaw with his fingertips, sending a shiver down my spine. "And what is it about me that you find so... intriguing?"
