The next day Preston was in court and the rest of the gang supported Pacifica during the proceedings. I wondered why Priscilla had not made an appearance.

'Gruncle Ford, do you know where Priscilla is?' I asked.

'I asked Sherriff Blubs where she was and according to him, she went missing exactly eight days ago,' Ford replied. My eyes widened.

'Wait. Eight days ago, we killed . Can Priscilla's disappearance be connected to Bill?' I asked.

'I honestly don't know. Let's talk about this later.'

The judge came in and the wheels of justice started turning. Preston sat down in the witness box.

'Court is now in session, the Honourable Judge Kevin Don presiding,' the clerk announced.

'Mr. Northwest do you plead guilty?' the judge asked.

'Guilty as charged, your Honor,' Preston answered.

'Counsel, have you reached a settlement?'

'Yes, Your Honor. The people have agreed that he should be imprisoned,' the district attorney said.

'Mr. Northwest, do you know that by pleading guilty you lose the right to a jury trial?'

'Yes, your Honor.'

'Do you give up that right?'

'Yes, Your Honor.'

'Do you understand what giving up that right means?' the judge asked.

'Yes, I do.'

'Do you know that you are waiving your privilege against self-incrimination?'

'Yes.'

'Has anyone forced you into accepting this settlement?'

'No.'

'Mr. Northwest, could you explain to the court why you are pleading guilty.'

'Because I slapped my daughter, and she didn't deserve it. I ruined a young woman's life by putting her in a coma, which she likewise didn't deserve. I take responsibility for my actions and am ready to accept any punishment you deem fit, even if I have to spend the rest of my life in prison,' Preston said.

'Very well. Mr. Northwest, you are hereby sentenced to 12 years in Gravity Falls prison,' the judge pronounced.

'I accept my fate.'

Preston looked at Pacifica.

'How many times can I receive visitors, Your Honour?'

'At least a few times a month.'

'Goodbye, Pacifica,'

'Goodbye, Dad. See you soon.'

As the police handcuffed Preston and took him away, Pacifica burst into tears. I hugged her close.

'Pacifica, lean on me for emotional support. I'll be there for you just like you were there for me when Wendy went into her coma,' I said.

'Thanks, Dipper that means a lot.'

We drove back to the Mystery Shack.

'Dipper, the good news is that I'm going to stay here for the rest of the summer,' Pacifica said and saw the excitement bloom on my face.

'And I know what surprise your parents have in store for you and Mabel on your birthday next week.'

'And I guess you won't tell me.'

'Of course not. It will ruin the surprise.'

'It's definitely going to be an awesome summer, because I can live with my girlfriend,' I said, and she blushed.
