Maya's POV
I opened the door to see Josh standing kinda nervously.
Josh: Hi- Wow, you look great.
Maya: Thanks. You too.
Josh: Let's go?
Maya: Yes.
Maya closes the door.
Riley: Your curfew is 10:00!
Josh took me to Claim Jumper. That's my favorite restaurant. It's like he knows me. We spent an hour eating our meals. After that, it was a surprise.
Maya: Where are we going?
Josh: It's a surprise.
After five more minutes of so much curiosity, we arrived at the movies.
Maya: The movies is your surprise?
Josh: You don't like movies?
Maya: No, I do. I just didn't expect something so casual yet sweet at the same time.
Josh: Well, um, what movie do you want to see?
Maya: How about Poltergiest?
Josh: WHAT?!
Maya: You don't wanna watch that?
Josh: No, it's fine. I just didn't expect you to suggest such a scary movie on our first...um...date.
Maya: Don't worry, I'll hold your hand if you get scared.
We bought the tickets, popcorn, soda, and candy. Then we got seated to see Poltergiest. It felt more like a comedy than a horror movie, only because Josh was so scared of the whole thing.
Flashback
Josh was watching the movie only through his fingers. He was so scared! When there was a frightening pop-up, he threw so much popcorn into the air!
Josh: AHHHHH!
Maya: Oh my gosh!
I couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole thing.
End of Flashback
We exited the movie theater. Josh's arm was around me.
Maya: You're acting pretty brave for someone who was screaming through the whole movie.
Josh: I wasn't screaming. I was...um...
Maya: Scared.
Josh: Yeah. NO! I mean...fine. I was kinda scared.
Maya: Josh, the little girl right next to us was kinda scared. You were screaming for your life.
Josh: Whatever.
We drove back to campus. By the time we got to my room, it was 10:05. Riley's probably having a panic attack. We were outside my door, and I was leaning on it.
Maya: Thanks for the fun night, Josh. I loved it.
Josh: I'm glad you did.
He leaned in to kiss me, two centimeters away.
Riley opens the door.
Maya: Whoa!
Riley catches Maya.
Riley: Oops! Sorry.
Josh: There goes my clumsy niece again. Hey, Riley.
Riley: Uncle Josh.
Maya: Riley...
Riley: Oh.
Riley closes the door.
Maya: Um, I should go.
Josh: Yeah. Um, goodnight.
Maya: Night.
I opened the door to see Riley standing so innocent.
Riley: So?
Maya: Riley?
Riley: Yes?
Maya: Next time...
Riley: Next time...
Maya: Next time, just wait for me to open the door.
Riley: Next time, just wait for you to open the door.
Maya: Good.
Riley: Good.
Maya: Well, night.
Riley: Goodnight.
