Chapter 22

I walked into my office and Cameron and Tyler were in there. Cameron looked at me already annoyed.

"You guys look like you want to rip each other's heads off" Tyler said "What's going on?"

Cameron stood up and grabbed a drink for himself.
"I took Ellie to a party and he's pissed"

"You don't realize how much danger she could've been in. You had no right to take her there. To take her anywhere." I said

"Yet she chose to leave with me" Cameron said and I came from around my desk

"You're on a thin line. I'd tread very lightly right now." I said pissed

"Guys" Tyler said as we glared at each other

"She's not a child Miles. You can't just lock her in here and expect her to be happy." Cameron said

"Don't tell me what to do with my girlfriend" I said and his jaw clenched at the statement

"She had fun." Cameron said "Try lightening up. You're her boyfriend not her warden"

We glared at each other.
"Stay away from Ellie" I said

He smirked and I wanted to wipe it off his face.
"You wouldn't ask me to stay away if you didn't consider me a threat." He said

"I didn't ask. It's an order." I said moving away and sitting in my chair

"Now that that's over. Cameron was telling me he found that Damian Carter worked as a distributor for stolen merchandise. He has friends in powerful places. Killing him lost them a lot of money. They want revenge." Tyler said

"They must've lost their mind if they think I'm just going to hand over Ellie." I said to him pissed

"I know I know."Tyler said

"How much money?" I asked "If I make up the cost that Damian owed them, would they leave Ellie alone?"

"You have to kill them. They'll keep trying to get her. The people he's aligned with are relentless" Cameron said

"I don't want to make it worse by killing more unnecessary people." I said

"Even if that means protecting Ellie?" Cameron said and I shot him a look

He shook his head and downed his drink.
"You fight the wrong people." He said and walked out the office

I sat in my office doing some paperwork and I heard a knock at my door.

"Go away" I said and soon the door opened and I was pissed

I looked up and it was Ellie. I hadn't seen her since this morning. All the tenseness in my stomach disappeared as soon as I got one look at her.

"Sorry to bother you. I wanted to bring you some food from the event I worked tonight." She said walking inside

"Darling just seeing your face is peaceful in itself. Your presence will never bother me." I said putting my pen down "Come here"

She came over to me and put the bag on my desk. She walked over to me and kissed me on the cheek. I sat her on my lap and kissed her neck inhaling her scent.

"I missed you" I said

"I did too" She said

She made me look at her and I tried to smile but I couldn't hide it from her. I couldn't contain the fear in my gaze. I didn't want to worry her with any of this, but the more I loved her, the more I cared, the more I worried for her safety. I loved her to death and the idea that someone would try to take her away from me scared the shit out of me.
