Ellie POV
I removed myself from Miles embrace in his bed and got up to get some water. I went downstairs to the kitchen and saw someone in the kitchen cursing to themselves. I turned the light on and his eyes darted to me. His hand was on his gun and he relaxed when he saw it was me. He had a cut on his face and his nose was bleeding. His knuckles were bleeding.
"What happened to you?" I hurried over to him and he backed away
"I'm fine" He said
"Cameron. This is the opposite of fine. You're hurt. Sit down." I said and he looked at me
I pointed to the chair and he sighed sitting down. I went into the bathroom to get a first aid kit and came next to him. He smelled like alcohol. I went to touch his face and he grabbed my wrist quickly.
"I'm going to patch you up. Is that okay?" I asked him
He stared at my lips as I spoke to him.
"Why are you being nice to me? I liked you better when you were mean." He said"Considering how banged up you are, I won't kick you while you're already down." I said
He smirked. "You should see the other guy" he said
"That's what all losers say" I said and covered my mouth quickly
He stared at me and actually laughed like full blown laughter.
"It slipped. I'm so used to-.Im sorry" I said quickly trying not to smile and he stared at me
I cleaned the blood from his nose and cleaned up his cuts.
"How did this happen?" I asked
"I got into a bit of a fight." He said
"This" I said gesturing at his injuries "This isn't a bit. Why do you do this to yourself?"
"I was bored." He said wincing and clenching his jaw as I applied the ointment to his cuts
"You read a book when you're bored, go on a walk. You don't get fucked up and your ass kicked" I said
He looked at me as I grabbed his hands to clean his knuckles.
"At least wear gear. Something to protect yourself" I said and his hand wrapped around mine. He stood up and towered over me. He backed me up into the counter and I looked at him. His hand wrapped around my throat making me look at him.
"Cameron-"I started
"Please don't say my name again. Every time you say it I can only think about you screaming it as I fuck the shit out of you. Don't be nice to me. Don't worry about me. Stay away from me. Because next time I won't be able to control myself around you Ellie." He said breathing heavily as I looked at him. He stared at my lips once more.
He let me go and stood up walking out the kitchen and into Miles office. My heart was racing and I couldn't help but feel the attraction. I hated feeling like that not for him. I'm not supposed to feel like this for him. Miles is good to me. Miles is great for me. What am I thinking? I'm not even supposed to be around Cameron. I promised Miles. I hurried upstairs completely forgetting why I came down in the first place. I went into Miles room and he shot up at the sound of his door opening.
"Ellie? Darling are you okay?" he asked rubbing his eyes. His hair was a mess and I smiled at him. He looked adorable even though I'd never admit it to him. I crawled into the bed and he reached for me.
"Yes I needed some water" I said lowly and he nodded pulling me into his arms
I relaxed into his hold. He held me like he'd never let go and I loved every second of it. He kissed my temple and rested his head into my neck.
"I love you" I said and he sighed.
"I love you more" he said and I closed my eyes trying to shake the feeling of Cameron's hand around my throat.
———
I woke up as the sun shone through the windows. I didn't feel Miles in the bed next to me as I rolled over. I frowned missing his hold around me. I got up and went to shower. I showered completely and got dressed for work. I had an early shift today. I went downstairs and as I came down I saw his eyes lock with mine. I hurried down and away from him towards the kitchen.
"Ellie" He said my name lowly and I felt him behind me
I continued walking but he grabbed my hand and I snatched it away from him.
"What Cameron?" I snapped
"Last night. I...I said something I shouldn't have. I was drunk and I shouldn't have said what I said to you." He said rubbing the back of his neck
"Have you never apologized a day in your life?" I asked him
"No" He said "I don't apologize."
"Well unless your next two words are I'm and sorry, you can go to hell." I said to him and he groaned
"Ellie" he warned
"Leave me alone Cameron" I said and his jaw clenched
He stepped closer. "I shouldn't have said what I did. It's not an apology. What I said was the truth. I won't ever lie to you. I meant every word. So no I'm not apologizing to you. I just shouldn't have said it aloud knowing you're taken. That is where I am at fault." He crossed his arms
"You're an asshole" I said to him walking off
"Yeah well tell me something new Ellie." He said and I stopped in my steps
"Where's Miles?" I asked seeing that the house was abnormally empty
"Oh you're asking the asshole? Perhaps I should keep what I know to myself" Cameron said smirking
I turned around and looked at him.
"You think you're funny?" I asked going up to him and he looked down at me"Kinda" He shrugged and walked off
"What is he doing? And why did he leave and not tell me where?" I asked and he stopped in his steps
"Shouldn't you be on your way to work?" he asked
"I know for sure Miles didn't leave you here to watch me." I crossed my arms and he came over to me.
"You're not a child Ellie. You don't need to be watched. You let him brainwash you into believing that you're not capable of protecting yourself. You're not a wounded animal. You are strong and very much capable" Cameron said looking down at me "Stop letting him control you"
I shook my head. "I know what controlling is and Miles isn't that." I said "He cares. A lot"
He shook his head and sighed.
"I can care about you and still let you have your freedom" He said"Well you don't so. He does." I said and Cameron's jaw clenched
"Let's go" he said walking towards the front door
"Where are we going?" I asked
"Don't you have a shift to make?" He asked and I nodded following him but then I stopped
"Miles-"
"Miles hated the idea but permitted me to take you to work." He said cutting me off
"Why would he?" I asked
"We aren't going anywhere with all your questions love" Cameron said and I looked at him rolling my eyes
I went out the door as he followed behind me closing the front door and locking it.
