(CONTEXT: This is one made-up AU where Shinichi and Shiho have found a more developed antidote and manage to stay as adults after the fall of the Black Organization. Ran has fought in it too and due to physical and psychological pain she is resting in the hospital.)

It was morning and Shinichi was sitting beside Ran's hospital bed. She lay unconscious. Hopefully, she'd wake up in a few days. That's what the doctor said. Ran was a strong woman. Shinichi, being her Childhood friend and...old partner...Could confirm that. But how frustrated he was. He thought that after breaking up she wouldn't want to involve herself. But here was lying on the bed, Ran. She risked her life for him. He kind of felt touched by the fact Ran still cared about her best friend even after that awful part in their story.

"Damn it, Ran!"  He was still frustrated about yesterday. She was two inches close to getting killed! Without realizing it he clenched his fist too hard. He tried calming down if she was to wake up she would be concerned about him more than herself which made him even more mad. "Why won't she prioritize herself first?! Who on earth cares about their ex..?" He knew the answer but remained silent. They were more than a couple who broke up. She was his best friend and he was her best friend. The fact he wasn't grateful made him ashamed of himself.

If it wasn't for her, Shinichi Kudo could have been a corpse in a tomb right now. He sighed out loud. Not only was he tired because this week was incredibly dangerous, but he had also visited everyone concerned, Heiji, Ran's old man, Rei, Akai, Jodie...And the list goes on.

He checked the clock and it was already 9:31 am. He stayed a bit too long. As he got up to open the door and leave he turned around just to make sure Ran hadn't woken up. As he entered the hallway he could hear sobbing. A woman with short hair wearing a hairband. Sonoko was sitting crying her soul out. She was shaken out by the whole incident. Her eyes were puffy probably meant she had been crying for hours now. He couldn't argue though, everyone had puffy eyes today. He stopped walking. Should he go and meet up with her? What would he say? Shinichi had known Sonoko for years just like Ran but he never understood Sonoko just like his best friend did. It would be extremely awkward. He would wait another day since it was too much for her to process: Antidote, APTX, Black Organization...

He walked through the hallway. Sonoko didn't notice him that was good. He observed nurses running left and right, and patients of every age were in the hospital, lying like Ran on a bed. The view only made him sorrow even more. If Ran didn't wake up...It was his fault. The no longer shrunk detective decided he would just look down as he walked. the sight of his shoes wasn't enough to make him feel at ease though. He was as shaken as everyone.

As he left the hospital where his friend slept right now, he waited in the rain. Trying to find with his sight a taxi. But to no avail. He had to stand very close to the hospital's white dull wall to not get soaked. He finally found a yellow car on the road so Shinichi waved at the car as he got close to it. As he got in the cab, a silence was established; asking but without asking him where did he want to go. He realized he hadn't talked in a while so he barely mustered:

"Beika."  Shinichi had said in a monotone voice. He couldn't care less.

He looked through the car window observing the buildings he had already seen many times but in different circumstances.

...

As the man drove him to Beika, he was dropped in front of his old mansion. How many memories did that house have? Times spent with his parents, the FBI agents staying because they needed a meet-up place, Akai Shuichi living in his house to track the Black organization, Ran who used to come clean up for him when he was stuck as Conan...And when Shiho Miyano had guessed he was shrunken just by noticing his child's clothes had disappeared when she checked his house twice. It wasn't exactly a happy memory but it was worth considering.
