Chapter Two, The Mark of the Red String

Zuko had been slipping in and out of consciousness all morning, he wasn't really sleepy, he just didn't want to get up. It had been peaceful and quiet until about one pm when the sound of knocking came from Zuko's door.

Zuko peeled himself off his pillow and sat up, he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. He usually had classes about this time of day but he had emailed his teachers to explain his absence.

Whoever had knocked knocked again.

"Who is it?" He yawned.

"It's Aang!" an enthusiastic voice called back.

Zuko frowned. "Who?" he asked.

"You met me last night when you fell over in the bathroom and you hit your head and my friend Bumi carried you to the Mark Reader and then we walked you back to your room and-"

Zuko opened his door, cutting Aang off mid-sentence. Aang's face brightened at the sight of Zuko, that was a first. Aang was wearing an orange hoodie and grey pants, he was also holding a small paper bag.

"I wanted to check that you were okay because you did hit your head pretty hard." Aang held up the small paper bag in front of Zuko, "And I brought sandwiches!"

".... What kind of sandwiches?" Zuko asked.

"Tomato, lettuce and cheese," Aang replied.

"... Alright," Zuko nodded, he gestured at Aang to follow as he turned around and walked into his room.

Zuko picked up a pile of clothes on the floor and dumped them on his bed.

"Sorry about the mess," He said.

Aang plopped down on Zuko's swivel chair and spun around a couple of times. "It's all good, it's definitely not the worst I've seen," he said with a grin.

He threw the small paper bag at Zuko. Zuko caught it and opened it. Inside were two large sandwiches wrapped in glad wrap. Zuko took one out and then tossed the bag back to Aang who caught it with ease.

Zuko had never tasted a more delicious sandwich. Yes, it was just a simple sandwich with lettuce, tomato and cheese, but it was so much more than that. The bread was soft and fluffy, the lettuce was crisp and fresh, the tomatoes were cold and juicy, and the cheese was... how the fuck am I supposed to describe cheese?... it was... cheesy? Yeah, we'll go with that. The cheese was cheesy. Needless to say, it was the best sandwich Zuko had eaten for a while.

"How's your arm?" Aang asked.

Zuko rubbed his forearm, his mark currently said "Who would win in a fight between a burger and a hot dog?" Zuko pulled his sleeve down.

"It's been alright... It's not as sore as last night. Still hurts quite a bit every time it changes," Zuko said.

His mark had been changing constantly all morning, and the searches were highly entertaining There were a lot of spell-checking and grammar questions, and mathematical searches. But besides all the typical Google searches you would expect, there were a few random ones.

Zuko's favourite random searches so far had been "What would a chair look like if your knees bent the other way?" "If I hired two private investigators to follow each other what would happen?" and his personal favourite: "WHY DO CATS HANDS BE SO TINY?!?!?!".

"What does it feel like when it changes?" Aang asked.

Zuko sat down on his unmade bed. He tried to think of a way to put it into words. What exactly did it feel like?
