Chapter Five, "Waterloo! Knowing my fate is to be with you!"
"Right well, we've got to pick up some stuff from a supermarket," Sokka said, turning the car left as the light went green.
"Oh! There's a local one three blocks from here actually," Zuko said.
Sokka glanced at him. "How do you know that?" he asked.
Zuko felt his cheeks flush as the thought of Jet crept into his mind "I used to live near here," he said.
"Ah," Sokka said. His eyes went over Zuko's face and then down to Zuko's bare chest, it made Zuko feel extremely naked.
"Do you want a shirt or something?" Sokka asked.
Zuko nodded. "Yes please."
Sokka pulled up to another red light and then yanked his blue hoodie over his head. He was wearing another sleeveless navy cut-off underneath that showed off his arms, very similar to the one he wore the night before. He passed his hoodie to Zuko.
"Here, just borrow this for now." He said as the light turned green again.
Zuko muttered thanks and pulled the blue hoodie over his head, immediately he was engulfed in the scent of Sokka. A mixture of deodorant, sweat, and hoodie smell, but it wasn't a bad smell, not overwhelmingly gross or disgusting, just smelled of a person. Zuko kind of liked it.
He moved his phone to the hoodie pocket, his phone screen was lit up with Jet's number, and he was still trying to call Zuko. Zuko scowled at the screen and fully turned off his phone.
They didn't speak, except for Zuko giving Sokka directions, until they reached the grocery store. Sokka parked the car and they headed inside. Sokka grabbed a basket and checked his phone.
"Right... Katara says we need to get butter, milk, bacon and vinegar," he said as he read off a list.
They started making their way up and down the aisles of the supermarket. Zuko saw the Dairy aisle.
"There's the dairy aisle," he pointed.
"Yup," Sokka replied.
They walked over to it. Zuko was looking through the milk deals when he heard Sokka mumble something. He looked at Sokka who was holding two cubes of butter and grinning to himself.
"Did you say something?" Zuko asked.
Sokka looked up, "Oh, it's just... ". There was a reluctant flicker in Sokka's eyes. But he held up one of the sticks of butter for Zuko to see "It's just that this one is the butter deal..."
Zuko stared at him for a moment. And then, after he managed to get his brain to think coherently for just one moment of clarity he held up the milk in his hand.
"You're milking it," He said.
Sokka's blue eyes lit up, clearly delighted with Zuko's response to his horrible pun. He pointed to the milk in Zuko's hand
"Me? Milking it? Come on, that's a load of bull," he said.
Zuko shook his head and continued with a deadpan expression. "That was horrible, Let's moo-ve on from this" He put the milk in the basket and turned around. He heard Sokka chuckling behind him.
Yes! Zuko thought. I made him laugh!
They walked to the meat aisle. Sokka crouched down over the meat and muttered to himself about the prices. Zuko thought about whether or not to say something about last night, so he ended up just staring at the back of Sokka's head.
