Chapter 2- Autumn
By the time we arrive at my flat I am completely out of breath and panting like a dog- god I need to work out more! The cut on my hand is stinging like hell, my head is pounding and I just want to sleep.
"Ok, I helped you so now will you tell me what’s going on?" I ask, looking up at the girl. She stares back at me silently. "Ok, let's start with an easier one, what's your name?" I ask, still no reply. "God you’re a chatting one aren't you." I say with a sigh before walking over to the sofa and flopping down. "Take a seat." I say, but she stays put, swaying slightly. "Are you alright?" I ask, as for the first time I notice how extremely pale she is and see the trickle of blood coming from the gash above her eye. "Come on sweetheart, you need to rest, you are safe here." I say and just at that moment her legs give way and she falls to the ground unconscious.
After checking for life signs and so on, making certain she is alive, I lift the unconscious girl and place her carefully on the sofa before rummaging around to find a blanket. Finally, when she is nicely covered up and when I have put the largest plaster I could find over the gash above her eye and then some on the cuts on my hand, I drop down into a chair and try and work out what exactly has just happened. I took a cut down an alley, someone was following me, I met this girl, she asked for my help, some people were coming and it seemed to frighten her so I brought her back here where she collapsed...ok, still confused but I'll go with it.I gulp down some whisky to try and stop the pain in my hand and to try and bury the a hundred and one questions that are bubbling inside my head. Luckily before long I feel my eyelids begin to droop and I slip of into much desired sleep.
"Shit!" That's the first thing that passes my lips when I wake the next morning. It turns out I was still holding a half full bottle of whisky when I fell asleep which has managed to spill all over my trousers. "Well that's just fricking great!" I mumble angrily as I get up and head to my room to change.I strip off and shower before coming back out in my towel. I have a pounding headache that just won't budge and something is gnawing at the back of my mind, god why do I have such a shit memory? I walk out into the lounge in my towel and stop dead, so that's what I forgot...oops.
I watch the sleeping girl with her auburn hair falling in a wave across her face for a moment before remembering I am only wearing a towel and I am pretty sure the first thing she wants to see in the morning is not me almost naked. I turn back towards my bedroom but as I do I trip over my shoes and my legs get caught in the towel and before I know what’s happening I am face planting the floor. I hear a fast inhale of breath and I know that the girl has woken. I pull myself from the floor, desperately pulling the towel back over my body and I can tell I have gone bright red. "Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you I…I tripped." I stutter as I see her curled up in a terrified ball on the sofa. "Sorry." I say again before quickly retreating to my room to change.
When I come out again I find her stood by my CD rack (yes I still have one, I know there is iTunes and stuff but you can never beat a good old CD) I cough awkwardly making her jump and scurry back to the sofa. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I say but she just gazes down at her knees as if she has done something terrible. I stand awkwardly, really not sure where to start, no matter what I say she just stays silent. But then the growl from my stomach finds the question for me. "Do you want anything to eat?" I ask and her eyes slowly lift from her knees giving me my answer.
