Chapter 27- White

*Danny’s POV*

You know that feeling you get if you are underwater and can’t get up? The feeling of drowning? Where your chest feels like it’s collapsing in on itself, crushing all the air from your body? Where there is a knot around your heart, slowly growing tighter and tighter? This is the only way to describe what I feel like right now, staring at the person stood on my doorstep, her hair flecked with snow that shines out against the black like stars do in the night. I move my mouth to form words but no sound comes, I am just left, moving my mouth very unattractively like a fish out of water…unless you think fish are attractive…but I doubt Cat does. She looks down, her eyes full of sorrow,

“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have come.” She whispers before turning her back. I am powerless to do anything; I just stand there, keeping up my fish impression as she walks away. Suddenly I break free whatever strange power had hold of me and I spring to my senses.

“Cat!” I call, my voice catching a little in my throat and she stops, “Sure you don’t want a Danny hug?” I say raising my arms and grinning. Slowly she turns, a smile forming on her lips. I smile and she nods and I see her bite back tears. There is a dull thud as her rucksack falls to the ground and then she is running, running into my arms.

*Autumn’s POV*

I run my hand over the top of the layer of snow adorning the wall next to me, scooping it up in my hands, ignoring the cold as it spreads through my flesh. I compact it into a snowball and smile; I remember watching children have snowball fights on the playing field in winter…all laughing and smiling.

“I hope I am not the target.” Rory says leaving me confused. I look up to see him grinning at the snowball cupped in my hands. I smile and shake my head before tossing the snowball forwards in front of us. Cassidy leaps up trying to catch it like a ball but just ends up eating half of it. I laugh as she shivers as she swallows the cold white powder.

“Hey,” Rory says suddenly, catching my attention. I turn to see him holding a large dustbin lid, “Want to have some fun?” He asks with a childish glint in his eyes. He grabs my hand and we set off at a run.

Soon we reach a small park with a steep bank that is smothered thickly in snow. Rory practically pulls me up the slope, the snow grabbing at my feet trying to hold me back. When we reach the top, he lays down the dustbin lid upside down at the top of the slope and sits on it before patting his lap. I look at him wearily but sit on his lap anyway. I am sat so that if he placed his arms under me, I would be in a sort of bridal style lift. I wrap my arms around him tightly as he reaches back and pushes off.

“Geronimo!” He cries, pulling his arms in around me as we begin hurtling down the hill. I scream and we cling onto each other for dear life as snow flies up from under the lid. Cassidy speeds along next to us, racing us down. Suddenly the dustbin lid hits a bump, sending us off balance. The lid tilts and swerves, throwing us clean off it.
