Chapter 31 - Ran

*Dan's POV*

A silence surrounds me once my ears have stopped ringing from the gun shot. I quickly stuff the gun back into my pocket; mainly due to the fact my hand is shaking far too much to hold it. Two dead- two down, one to go. Suddenly, the sound of sirens rings out through the night. There is no knowing where they are heading but the boys seem spooked.

"Right, time to find her." I say, turning their attention back to me.

"Dan...Surely...she won't survive now...why not just…let her go?" Ben splutters and Mike nods in agreement.

"Let her go?!" I yell and smile inwardly as they take a frightened step back.

"Cause...we don't want to get caught...we will get caught if we don't run now." Mike says and I shake my head in bitter disappointment.

"I don't care; all I want is that pathetic bitch dead! And you will help me..." I say, my hand snaking into my pocket and wrapping around the gun. "…because if you don't, then you too will have betrayed me." I say, drawing it out and pointing it at Mike's head. I see them both stumble back, trying to get away.

"Daniel! Behave yourself!" Someone whispers in my ear.

"Shut up!" I cry, spinning round to see her again, stood in front of Joey.

"I-I didn't say anything Boss!" Joey stammers.

"Temper, temper." Amber tuts.

"Leave me alone!" I cry, bringing up a second hand to steady the gun in her direction. Joey seems to panic, pushing himself against the wall in fear.

"What'd I do Boss?" Joey stammers.

"Shut up you fool!" I snap at him before focusing back on Amber. “Why won’t you just leave me be!?” I yell at her and she smiles.

“Oh Dan, you really don’t know how this thing works do you?” She says, putting on a patronizing voice. “I will never leave you.” She whispers, smiling, but it’s not a nice smile, it’s a smile at someone else’s pain, it’s a fucked up, horrible smile that sends shards of ice shooting through my spine. I can feel my heart pounding in my chest as I cock the gun. She tilts her head slightly, staring down the barrel of the gun.

Rock-a-bye baby, in the tree top

When the wind blows, the cradle will rock

When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall

And down will come baby, cradle and all”

She sings. I don’t know why she sings it but it sends chills through me. My finger aches as it hovers in front of the trigger. I gaze into her eyes, there beautiful golden colour entrancing. Then my finger gets tired of waiting for orders. There is a loud bang and my ears scream in pain. My wrist jolts from the power of the shot and I feel adrenaline shoot through me.

Slowly, I look up, to the place where she stood. She is gone, vanished, all I see is Joey, shaking and quivering against the wall, a bullet hole in the brick just above his head. I let out a sigh before turning away from Joey. I expect to see Mike and Ben behind me but instead all I see is him, the body on the ground. I let out a frustrated cry, the bloody cowards!

“Joey come on!” I bark, stuffing the gun into my pocket again.

“W-where are we going?” He asks, his voice still shaking. I smile and look off into the darkness of the alley.

“We’re going on a hunt.”

*Glen’s POV*

I can’t believe it…I am dreaming…I must be. I have had plenty of dreams like this recently…but none felt this…real. I don’t try to stop the tears as they fall softly down my cheeks. I just stare, stare that the girl in his arms, crying into his chest. She is dirty and thin, sickly pale and her face full of sorrow, but it’s still her, I would know her anywhere.
