Chapter 21- I’ve got the power!
*Rory’s POV*
The last ferry leaves in 5 minutes, with luck that gives us time to get aboard. I am just about to turn away from the timetable sign when a familiar voice rings through the darkness.
“Holiday is it? Going anywhere nice?” She asks, hidden by shadow by the side of the sign.
“Leave us alone.” I say, backing towards Autumn protectively.
“Rory, please.” She says, stepping out of the shadows. “You have to come back, Dan knows there is something wrong, he will come looking for you!” Amber says sounding genuinely worried and…afraid?
“He can look all he likes, he will never find us, he won’t lay another finger on her!” I say, my anger at Dan bubbling out in my voice.
“Rory please! I don’t want it any more than you but sometimes you just have to let bad things happen for the greater good! If you don’t come now, he will kill you and anyone else in his way!” Amber cries and I can hear it in her voice, she seems to actually care. I never really had her down as someone who cared about me, but then, I never really had anyone down who cared about me, except Autumn of course, but even with her, I am still not really sure. When Amber found me, frozen and starved on the streets, I never really paid attention to if she cared. And then now I know for a fact practically all her emotions are faked, but this…this doesn’t feel fake. But I have Autumn to look after, I can’t afford to worry about Amber.
“Goodbye Amber” I say, taking Autumn’s hand and leading her away, Cassidy hot on our heels. I can hear the sound of her stilettos following us but we are almost there. I put my ticket in, and the barrier opens, Autumn does the same, Cassidy in her arms.
“Rory!” Autumn yells and I look back to see her trying to climb the barrier.
“Excuse me miss, you need a ticket to pass through here.” A security guard says in a robotic, toneless voice, but she ignores him.
“Rory!” She yells but I turn away. I see Autumn’s fear in her eyes- always in the eyes, and I put an arm around her as we walk.
“Rory! Please…” I hear Amber’s final, half-hearted call before we board the ferry. I glance back one last time to see her being lead off by the guard,
“So long Dublin.” I whisper as the ferry pulls out of the harbour and onto the vast blue void before us.
*Danny’s POV*
I hardly have time to register it before it's over. Cat pulls away, her cheeks flushing scarlet.
