After eating, Rick suggested we continue moving before a herd catches us sitting around. Nobody wanted to, but we all knew we had to keep moving, no matter how exhausted we were.
"Daryl." I spoke up, pointing ahead of us. Glancing in the direction I was pointing in, he walked forward, pushing tree limbs out of the way as we found a barn.
"Should we circle back and tell Rick and the others?" I asked, glancing over as I saw him sit down. "Daryl?"
I watched as he pulled a few cigarettes out of his pocket, along with a lighter, and lit one. Taking the moment, I sat down as well, relaxing my legs and stretching them out in front of me.
Glancing back over, I saw he put the cigarette to his hand, holding it there as it burned his hand. I frowned slightly, but didn't say anything, knowing he wouldn't respond anyways.
He dropped the cigarette to the ground and began to fidget with his fingers as his chin began to tremble. Without a word, I scooted next to him, bringing his head down to rest in the crook of my neck, letting him cry it out.
We sat there for a few minutes before he brought his arms around me, sniffling here and there. He's been holding it all in ever since Atlanta. I thought to myself as I stared at the barn.
If it's one thing I've learned about Daryl since joining the group, it's that he holds everything in. Hell, he never let anyone in at the beginning. It wasn't until the farm fell that he slowly began to.
Once I noticed he quietened down, I brought his head up to see his face, wiping the tears. "Come on, we should head back to the others before they get too far." I whispered out softly.
Not saying anything he gave me a nod and stood up, picking up his bow before reaching his hand down to help me up. When I got up, he didn't let go as he motioned his head, pulling me along.
We made our way back the way we came, to see the group standing there as Rick held a piece of paper in his hand. He handed it to Daryl as the both of us looked at it, seeing what it said.
From a friend.
Glancing over, I saw that there were jugs and bottles of water. "What else are we gonna do?" Tara spoke up.
"Not this." Rick said as he glanced around our surroundings. "We don't know who left it."
"If that's a trap, we already happen to be in it." Eugene mentioned. "But I, for one, would like to think it is indeed from a friend."
"What if it isn't? They put something in it?" Carol asked, glancing at it.
"Eugene." Rosita called out as he reached for one of the bottles, going to open it.
"What are you doing, dude?" Tara asked in surprise.
"Quality insurance." Was his reply before going to drink it.
Abraham rushed forward, knocking it out of his hand. "We can't." Rick told us.
Thunder began to rumble causing me to look up as it began to rain. I let out an amused laugh, basking in the rain. I glanced around as everyone enjoyed the coolness and wetness it brought amidst the summer heat.
Though, some weren't happy. I paused, seeing Maggie, Sasha, and Daryl standing there. I was hoping some good luck would hit us eventually because we definitely need a break. And maybe this was the beginning.
"Everybody get the bags. Anything you can find." Rick told us. "Come on." As everyone began setting empty bottles out, I walked back to Daryl, grabbing the one he had clipped to his pants, opening it and setting it down.
