I stood behind Beth with Daryl as he was teaching her to track, bringing a smile to my face. "Something came through here. The pattern is all zig-zaggy. It's a Walker."
"Maybe it's a drunk." Daryl countered, rubbing his chin.
I slapped his arm with the back of my hand lightly. "You know damn well it's not a drunk." He just chuckled as I looked at Beth. "Ignore him." I spoke up, adjusting the sleeves of my jacket.
"I'm getting good at this." She smiled. "Pretty soon I won't need you at all." She told him, aiming the bow and walking forward.
"Yeah, keep on tracking." He waved her off as we followed her lead.
"Better watch out Mr. Dixon, she might take your place as the group's survivalist." I teased, giving him a smirk, knowing how he is with the nickname.
He gave me a look, huffing. "Stop."
I snickered as I stopped behind Beth. "What is it?"
She pointed to the walker ahead. "It's got a gun."
She looked to Daryl, who gave her a nod, before aiming at the Walker. Beth stalked forward before stepping on a trap, catching the Walkers attention.
The two of us rushed forward to help, but Beth beat us to the punch and shot the damn thing. The arrow went through the neck, so Daryl took the bow to kill it as I went to help Beth.
I pulled the trap of her foot, looking at it as Daryl killed the Walker, coming over to us. "Can you move it?"
She rotated her ankle, testing it out. "Yeah." She stood up and Daryl began to place her arm over his shoulder.
"Here." I spoke up, taking her arm from him. "I'll help her, you can handle the Walkers better than I can."
He nodded his head, going over to the Walker to collect his arrows. "Let's go."
Slowly we began making our way through the woods. A few minutes went by and we stumbled across a graveyard.
"Can we- can we hold up a sec?" Beth asked, causing me to stop.
"You alright?" Daryl asked, looking back to us.
She removed her arm from around my shoulder, moving her leg up and down. "I just need to sit down."
Daryl contemplated for a moment before holding his crossbow out for me to grab. Confused, I took a hold of it as he knelt down. "Hop on."
"Are you serious?" She asked, looking at me as if I knew his thoughts process to which I shrugged.
"Yeah. This is a serious piggyback." He replied as if it were that simple. "(Y/N) won't be able to carry you. Jump up." She did as he said, as he stood back up. "You're heavier than you look."
I rolled my eyes at him as we began to walk. "Maybe there are people in there." Beth said, motioning to the building ahead.
"Yeah, if there are, I'll handle them." Daryl replied.
Beth let out a sigh. "There are still good people, Daryl."
"I don't think the good ones survive." He admitted. He has a point. All of us have done some things that wouldn't make us "good people."
We stopped by a grave as Beth jumped off Daryl's back, staring at the headstone. Letting her have a moment, I stood off to the side as Daryl grabbed some flowers and placed it on top of the headstone.
I stepped up beside Beth, placing a hand on her shoulder as she looked at me. I gave her a small assuring smile as she gave me one back, grabbing onto Daryl's hand.
