Chapter 15

Thane's pov***

After Ashton leaves, I go to my office. Kyle is there talking to Loraine. She smiles as she looks at me. I return the smile.

"Well good morning, Thane! I was just thinking about you! My friend says that her daughter is still not dating anyone. Are you free this weekend?"

"Actually, I am busy this weekend and next weekend. I am very happy with my girlfriend. But I do appreciate your hard work."

"Hold it right there, mister! I know that last weekend you were without a girlfriend! I'm not falling for that again!"

I grin at that. "I did fib a little last week. But not now." I pull up a picture of Ashton and I at dinner last night. Then I show it to her and Kyle. Then I show them the picture of us at the bar, then during the meteor shower.

"Well, I'll be damned! Ashton is the friend's daughter that I was talking about! You got a good one there." Loraine said smiling.

"I didn't think that you had made your move yet. Good job!" Kyle added.

"I didn't make the move. She did. Ash asked me out yesterday and I jumped at the chance. I'm not stupid enough to pass the chance up. So, rest assured that I do have a girlfriend and I am very happy with her." 

"Are you indeed? So, you won't mind if I call Tara and ask if Ashton enjoyed her date?" Loraine asked as if she doesn't believe me or the pictures. Which she doesn't.

"Go ahead and ask. Heck put her on speaker if you want. I actually just left Ashton about a half hour ago. We had breakfast together. Ashton had pancakes and ham while I had bacon. She drank juice because she doesn't like coffee."

Loraine tried to be funny. She pulled her phone out and dialed it while watching my face for panic or deceit. She still hadn't found any when Tara answered the phone.

"Hey, Tara! Did Ashton go on a date last night?" Loraine asked her friend.

"Well yes, she did in fact go out last night. Thane took her to dinner then for a drink. They had a wonderful time from what Ashton told me. She even met him for pancakes this morning. They have really hit it off." Tara answers. I feel like I have won the lottery now! 

Ashton had told her mom about our date and said that she had a great time with me! I couldn't be happier! Kyle was smiling at me as I realized that I was grinning like the cat who ate the cream. I wave and turn for my office. I need to get some work done. We will be going to the CBPD in about an hour. I am called to Kyle's office after only twenty minutes.

We make sure that all of our ducks are in a row before leaving for the department. My phone rings as I stand to leave Kyle's office. I check it to see Ashton's beautiful face. I smile as I answer it. "Hello, beautiful. How was court?"

"Hello, gorgeous! It went as I expected and better. The judge threw the case out and will be filing charges against the other attorney for fraud and contempt of court. He lied about not knowing that I wasn't served on the tenth. He advised Heather to file charges for harassment and put in a restraining order for me. They are no longer allowed to contact me in any way. Not even for a lawsuit. I went ahead and came to class to get a couple hours in. I'll be at the station about three o'clock. I want to see the faces when they understand how wrong they have been this entire time. How is your day going?"

"It is better now knowing that you have won the case. But I never will doubt you and your ability. You have had me hooked from hello." I hear Kyle chuckling with Saunderson and Jimenez behind me. I flip them off as I get into my truck. Kyle gets into my passenger seat before I can lock him out.
