I go about my day patrolling the streets only stopping two cars that both ran a red light. Only one citation was written and that was for a child not in a child car seat. I get a text from Max saying that he will meet me at my house at five thirty. Although he wasn't sure that he wanted to go since they may have seen his underwear.
I text him back. 'Come on! Get over it. You know that my family and I are really close. If you can't accept them then you can't accept me. Make your choice or I will."
An hour before the end of the shift he sends a reply. "I accept your family. But I am not dealing with them being able to see me in my underwear. I think that we need to disable the interior cameras.'
I didn't answer this ridiculous suggestion. After what happened to Kaylee, interior cameras are a must have. I don't mind changing some things, but I am not changing that. That is messing with my security. At five o'clock I am finished with the debriefings and head home. Thane came to the house soon after I get home and out of the shower. We kiss as a greeting. His arms are around me, holding onto me tightly. I feel so safe in his arms. I just want to stay there all day and night. I get a text from River and he tells me that his thang has given birth and he has taken the DNA test already. I tell him that I am proud of him. He says that he will tell the whole family why the test was not necessary at dinner. The only thing that comes to my mind is that the baby is bi-racial. Other than that I don't think that you can tell who the baby looks like at just a few hours old. I put it out of my mind for now.
Thane and I are ready to go to the parents for dinner. But Max isn't here yet. He said five thirty and it is fifteen till six now. We go out to Thane's truck and start backing out of the driveway when Max pulls up beside us. Thane rolls the window down. "Are you riding with us or by yourself?" I ask.
"Well hello to you too, angel. I'll ride with you guys."
He parks by the garage and slowly walks to the truck. I call mom. "Hey, mom. We are on our way. Is there anything that we need to stop and get?"
"No babygirl. I was starting to wonder if you were working late again. You guys are never late for dinner." Mom replies. As Max finally gets into the truck. I gave him a side eye as I am not too happy with him right now.
"I know, mom. I am so sorry for being late. Thane and I were waiting on Max. But we are on our way now."
"Ok, baby, we will hold dinner for you and the guys."
"Thanks, mom. We will be there in two minutes." I say as I look at Max. We hung up.
We turn on the street that I grew up on and Max finally speaks again. "Don't I get a kiss or something?"
"No, I am upset with you. I thought that we agreed on leaving at five thirty. That way we wouldn't be late. Now mom is holding dinner for us. I really hate being late!"
"Come on, angel. It is just dinner with your family. Don't be mad like that."
Thane parks the truck beside Alex's truck. We get out and walk to the door as it opens and dad smiles at us. "Hey, sweetheart! I was starting to think that you had changed your mind. Come on. Dinner is being put on the table."
I walk to him and hug my first hero. "Hi, daddy. I'm sorry that we are late. No need to worry."
"I just know how much you detest running late. To you, five minutes early is late." He adds. "Come on in and welcome back Thane and Max."
I just nod and smile at dad's assement of my personality. Thane smiles and greets dad. Max just says hi. Which catches dad's attention. He shuts the door with a raised brow as he looks at me. I shake my head slightly.
