Chapter 9

Thane's pov***

I can't believe that I'm sitting here waiting on a little woman to  save my cousin from danger! We are a bunch of big men who have been trained in self-defense and law enforcement for many years. We have a total of about fifty years combined in law enforcement, plus whatever Griffin Tucker has behind him. But we are waiting on an almost inexperienced woman to save the only relative that I am close to.

I knew that Justice was in trouble when he rejected my calls and texts. Then his number changed or disconnected. I was investigating how to get him out when Kyle called me into his office and explained about Griffin's call. I wanted to go in with guns blazing. Kyle stopped me. 

We hold that meeting with Griffin and they both talked me into waiting until we talked to Ashton before going on halfcocked.  I didn't understand how a woman could be so special. When she shows up, I knew that I had been misled. Nobody that beautiful can be as heroic as they have been talking about for the past half hour. I wanted to get her number then go get Justice. When he is safe I can think about getting Ashton Thomas into my bed.

I became a believer as Ashton told us her plan to stop Justice. It was a beautiful plan that she had come up with. My plan could have gotten my fellow agents, Justice, and myself killed. Storm the compound! What a horrible plan, Thane! Now I just have to wait for a day and a half for this beautiful five foot of lusty curves to save the best friend that I've ever had.

When she shakes my hand, I felt the calluses on her hand. This woman works hard with her hands. I wonder what she does when she's off duty. Then I have thoughts of those hands rubbing me down. It sent shivers down to my cock.

I watch as she walks to her truck. Her comment of getting a shower did nothing to soften certain body parts. When she tore out of the parking lot I asked if she always drives like that.

Griffin laughed. "Yes! You should see her on her bike. There's no stopping that girl. She throws her all into everything she does. She takes after her mom with that. She also takes after my brother, Asher. If he hadn't died before Ash was conceived, I would think that she was his instead of mine. She acts more like Asher than me or Tara."

That caught my attention. "You and your brother both dated your wife?"

"We did. Asher and I shared more than our toys and clothes. We both loved Tara. She loved both of us. What could be better than sharing a love with someone that you trusted with everything in your heart and soul? Asher and Tara were leaving to get married when he was shot and killed. We even thought that Ashton would marry both David and Drake. But Drake met and married his wife. Ashton and he never felt anything other than friendship toward each other. Ashton and David were madly in love though. No matter how many obstacles I threw at David. He jumped every one of them." Griffin had a nostalgic look on his face. 

I was curious, but I kept the questions to myself. I can occupy myself with researching Ashton on my own. "Well I am anxious to get this business over with. I haven't seen my cousin in a year. He is the only family that I'm close to and I worry about him when I can't talk to him. Thanks for your help with this. But are you sure that Ashton can do this?"

"Oh I am positive that she can do this. I have been working with her since she was about nine years old. She is tough. A lot tougher than most men that I know. Have faith in my daughter. She can also whoop the shit out of all her brothers. I have six sons. All are tall like I am. Ash gets her stature from her mom. I wouldn't let her do this if I thought that she would get hurt. I won't put her through that. I also wouldn't be a happily married man if I put her in too much danger. My wife would not only kick my ass, but probably castrate me in the process. Then hand me over to my mom and dad. Ashton is perfect for this mission."
