I put on a cloak and walked amongst the crowd of people. Lanterns and neon lights bathed the streets in a warm glow, illuminating the traditional wooden buildings and elegantly dressed geisha who moved through the crowds.
"This is gonna be impossible." I muttered.
I made my way through and found myself in an inn. There was a lavishly dressed lady dancing on the stage while a couple of other ladies played various instruments or sang.
"I should bide my time until the streets are more empty." I said quietly to myself as I pulled out a chair sitting down.
As I looked around the place a waiter came by holding a glass. He wore a grayed out shirt with several stains and smudges on it as well as a worn out vest on top, marked with frayed edges.
"Your drink, sir." He said placing it on the table. Before I could completely process what happened he walked away.
"Hey wait I didn't order this— Aaaand he's gone." I looked at the drink. "Well I guess I am a bit thirsty." I lifted it up to my mouth, sipping on it before spitting that little amount out.
"Gah this is terrible." It felt oily in my mouth and had harsh aftertaste. But it tasted like there was some sort of fruit in there. Can't be that bad? I eyed the drink before sipping on it again. Within minutes I finished it completely. It was strangely soothing in a way.
As I leaned back, I caught the eye of the waiter from earlier. He was talking to an old man. They were talking before the waiter made direct eye contact with me, narrowing his eyes.
"Shit." I immediately got up and made my way to the exit but before I could leave I felt a firm hand on my shoulder.
"You need to pay for that sir." The very man asserted.
"I uhh... well you know you gave it to me when I didn't order it so it's not really my fault—
"Pay up." He interrupted.
I sweatdropped.
"Listen, I wish I could but I don't have any money." I responded sheepishly. His eyebrows furrowed and he reached for my collar. I hit his hand away. "Hands to yourself." I called out.
"Who do you think you are?" He said roughly, drawing back his arm and swinging it forward. I caught his punch and drove my knee into his gut, causing him to cough. I took a step away and he fell to the ground still coughing. I looked up to see the other patrons staring at me. My eyes widened. Before I could think, I put my hood back on and ran out, disappearing into the crowd.
The atmosphere felt gloomy as I walked without looking back. My vision clouded as it began to rain. I found myself in the slums of Entertainment District. There were some children huddled together under a blanket. I sighed taking my cloak off and walking over, putting it on top of them.
I walked away without a word, down the muddy road, not seeing any need to interact with them any further. The world didn't deserve to be so cruel in the first place. I didn't need their gratitude. The impact of the rain on my head suddenly stopped. I noticed it was the shade of an umbrella and turned to see a middle aged man. He was mostly dry with the exception of his shoulder which was left in the rain with my inclusion.
"You're the demon hunter?" He questioned. I waited a moment before simply nodding holding back the urge to correct his miswording. "Come on." He said briefly.
He walked past me and I followed, going through an alley and eventually leading me into a building. The walls were grey and with flickering yellow lights. I followed him up a staircase and he led me into a room. There was a bed with someone sleeping in it, which I didn't question.
