Things I should add to my 'not to do' list: Never touch someone's Vision.
As you know, after that incident, my father fell into deep thought. I just watched over him like an idiot who had fallen from the sky. Well, I did fall from the sky, though.
"Manipulating Elemental powers without having a vision," Dad muttered to himself, but I could hear him.
"But how?" I asked. "I thought the only way to control elemental powers was through Visions."
"Well, I know someone who can give us an answer about this."
"Great, who is that?"
"Your grandfather, Narukami... The former Dragon of Lightning & Thunder."
**********
To be honest, I never wanted any of this, and I wasn't even ready for any of this. But meeting Narukami personally... Well, I'm kind of nervous.
We went back home, and Dad explained everything to Mom. It seemed that blast caught too much attention. Well, Mom just crossed her arms and listened to the story. I think her expression was pretty indifferent, but on the bright side, she didn't say anything. She just sighed and said,
"I'm coming too. I want to meet my parents too."
"So, when do we leave?" I asked.
"In a few moments, I will teleport us there," my mother replied.
"Tele... What again?" I asked, confused. I mean, Shinano taught me about Youkai and their powers, but this is the first time I heard that word.
"Well, I guess I didn't teach it to you. It was supposed to be your upcoming lesson, but I will teach the basics today. As you know, there are different Youkai living in Inazuma. Like Oni, Tengu, and Kitsune like me. Can you tell me what our specialties are?"
"Yes, as I remember. Oni are stronger than any Youkai when it comes to muscle power, but they lack brains. Oni don't have specialties; they just live the way they like. Tengu are stronger, but not like Oni, but they are smart and wise. The special thing about them is they have to serve under a master, like a Samurai. For Kitsune, they are not fighting people, but they are wise and intelligent more than a human. They have a long lifespan too. Their specialty is guiding and communicating with spirits and fighting against bad spirits. Am I right?" I finished my explanation and looked at my parents.
My mother was about to cry. "Did you hear it, Isshin? How bright our kid is? The way he explains all of it." She started to hug me and pet me. "Aww... I'm so proud of you." She wagged her tails excitedly, and after a few minutes, she let go of me.
"So, back to the lesson... We Kitsune can open paths for spirits to travel distances." While she was saying this, she raised her folding fan and lit up the ground below us like a circle. A bright light flashed in front of my eyes, so I closed them. When I opened them again, we were in a different place. It wasn't part of Narukami Island. The environment was almost magical.
"Where are we?" I asked.
"Welcome to the spirit realm, where I was born, where every Youkai was born," my mother replied.
"I thought we were traveling to some distant place, but this is another realm."
"Spirit paths can be used for both. You can travel between places or realms if you want. But even among the Kitsunes, only a few can open spirit paths. Your mom is cool, you know," my mom self-complimented.
"Let's go. I think he knows we are here now," said Dad.
I looked up ahead in the distance. I could see a castle built with dragon and lightning style. I gulped.
"Don't be afraid, he won't eat you. At least..." Dad said.
"Can you explain that 'at least' part?" I asked, but he ignored me. We slowly walked towards that castle. While we were walking, I saw so many Youkais. Some of them were kids like me; there were adults. Most of them came to us and talked with my parents. They got curious about me, and my parents introduced me to them. They said 'welcome young master, how are you?' like things. But to be honest, I was so nervous, so the only thing I could do was smile and greet them back.
After a few minutes of walking (which felt like eternity), we finally reached our destination. There was a man in the castle garden fertilizing some roses while whistling. He was covered with mud and fertilizing stuff that did not smell good. He was wearing some plain old clothes and a Jingasa (a hat). He looked young, about my father's age. He looked like he had just fought some giant pests that had come to eat the rose plants.
"So, you look like you are back, Isshin," the man asked my father.
"I'm back, Father," my father replied.
Yep, I'm still processing what they said. Is that my grandfather? Just a gardener who smelled like compost. Here was stupid me, who thought about a person with white hair and a long beard and acting all mighty, you know, like 'You ate my noodles now perish, foolish mortal,' throw some lightning bolts and destroy everything while laughing evilly. Guess what... I didn't see this one coming. Well, I didn't see everything that came before too.
"So, you might be my grandson," he said, coming near to me.
"Hello, I'm your grandfather, Narukami. Nice to meet you, Raiden Shahasra."
