The mysterious monster

These days are so boring. I've started to master my domain and chakra. I think I really have the hang of it now. My favourite thing about my domain is that I can beat up Raijin whenever I like. It puts my mind at ease. The next thing I found out is that the elements take on my personality. For Raijin, I think it's my sarcasm and joking personality. I still can't identify which personality Shinigami holds. He's so mysterious. He knows things I don't know and never tells me any of it.

Back to the present. My twelfth birthday is coming up. I think my parents are going to hold a party. It's been a year since I fell into this world, and a lot of things have happened during this year.

The punishment of the Kaedehara Clan is over now, but they are under the supervision of the Kamisato Clan. Takashi is now working as my retainer and bodyguard. Sometimes we spar together, and he's become quite skilled. Despite everything he went through, he acts calmly now. As for Ei and Makoto, we share letters since they aren't allowed to come to our castle now. I don't know why; Mother just said it's "girls' things," so I didn't pry into it. Yashiro and Tenryou visit here every day.

Forgot to mention, in Teyvat, there are creatures called monsters. They're not like wild animals; most of them do harm to people. There are various types of monsters in Inazuma too. Some of them are really stupid, and some of them are smart. The Shogun's army's main duty is to destroy these monsters. When a monster is killed by someone, it's reduced to ashes, so you don't have to worry about disposing of their bodies, and you can gather valuable materials from them. You can sell these items for a good price in the market, and these materials are used to craft various items.

So, sometimes Takashi, Yashiro, Tenryou, and I go monster hunting. It's not just to collect materials but also as a form of training. Today, we were about to go hunting too. The Kamisato Clan received a commission from a remote village reporting that a monster is destroying the village. So, we hopped on our horses and started to head to that village. We began talking while we were on our way there.

"So, some monster started stealing food and destroying crops in a village. That's weird," I spoke up after hearing this.

"And it didn't even cause any harm to the villagers too," Takashi asked.

"I don't think so, because most of the food that was stolen was found everywhere. That monster didn't eat all of them. It only ate half of them. I inspected a bread that it ate. The tooth marks are similar to a dog," Yashiro replied.

"It's a dog then... why are we going to hunt a dog in full armour?" Tenryou asked. He's right; we're wearing our full armour.

"At first, I thought so too, but I changed my mind after hearing reports from the people that I sent to investigate this case," Yashiro replied.

"What reports?" I asked, a sense of curiosity tingling in my voice.

"You will see, young master. I want to see it with my own eyes too," Yashiro replied, but there was a hint of concern in his voice, and the look on his face didn't sit well with me.

*********

Soon after we arrived at the village, the village chief and people came to welcome us. We handed our horses over to them to take care of them. After that, we started to talk with the chief. He was an old man with a bald head. He bowed to me at a 90-degree angle.

"I was expecting some Shogun soldiers, but I never expected the Prince and his friends to come to this poor village. This matter isn't worth it for a young prince to come," he humbly spoke up. He was right. Given my position, it was a bit much, but I was bored anyway.

"Don't think too much of it. I was just bored these days. I came here for a change of pace," I replied with a slight smile.

"It was the young master's wish, so please don't think too much of it," Yashiro reassured the chief, his tone gentle and understanding.

"But I'm not sure, given our village's condition, we won't be able to show hospitality to..." the chief tried to explain, his voice tinged with concern.

"It's okay," I assured him, trying to convey reassurance and understanding.

"If that's what the Young Prince wishes," he said, his voice resigned but respectful.

"Can you show us the way? My clansmen said that the monster destroyed your farming field. Can we see it?" Yashiro asked, his concern evident in his tone.

The chief nodded and gestured for us to follow him. Soon after, we arrived at a place, and my jaw dropped at what I saw.

It was a radish field, as I had seen before, but the shocking sight before us was beyond belief. Huge spikes made from rocks protruded from the field, causing destruction to all the crops. These spikes were towering, as tall as medium pine trees, and their needle-sharp points sent shivers down my spine.

"What in the world happened here?" I asked, my voice filled with disbelief.

"Who the heck plants rock spikes instead of radishes?" Raijin questioned in my head. I couldn't help but agree with him this time.

"The owner of this field is now injured and resting in my house. He is one of my sons. As the Young Prince knows, there was an animal that kept stealing food and eating our crops in our fields. My son laid traps to catch that animal. Last night, it worked; one of his traps caught the animal. He rushed to the field with his spear to kill the animal. It was a normal daily thing for villagers like us. As Your Majesty sees, we are a poor village that hunts and farms for our living," the chief explained, his voice tinged with exhaustion and worry. he coughs.

"I'm sorry for that, Young Prince," the chief continued. "After a few moments, he went, we sensed an earthquake and my son screaming in pain. Me and the other villagers rushed to him, and we found out this. That's not an animal we see every day. It's a monster. From that day, we live in fear. That's why we asked for help," he explained, his voice heavy with sorrow.

"How is your son now? Does he remember how that monster looks?" Tenryou asked, concern evident in his tone.

"Thank you for asking. My son is fine. He said he didn't see that monster because it was too dark," the chief replied.

"Young master," Takashi spoke up.

"I know. We have to find this monster. It's too dangerous to let it live," I replied, determination in my voice.

"I'm glad I decided to wear my full armour," Tenryou added, a hint of relief in his voice.
