Love again?(Alternative ending)

Cas knocked on the consul's door, and Max looked up and his face broke into a huge grin Cas reflecting it.

"Is the consul a little too busy for me to congratulate him?", Cas asked entering and Max walked around the table and hugged Cas.

"No you are always welcome", Max said pulling away but never stepping away, Cas also stayed in Max's arms.

"Congratulations", Cas said softly looking into the beautiful blue eyes he got from his dad, "Thank you", Max muttered.

"So I need to ask you a favor, I am so sorry, but Jack asked me to", Cas said and Max chuckled, "It's ok Cas", he said stepping away.

Cas told him what happened and Max nodded, "Sure, but I need a month or so to clean up, you can call them soon after", Max said.

"Thank you", Cas said and they locked eyes drowning in them, "So... I know that shadowhunters fall in love once, what about you?", Cas asked and cursed himself in his mind for being so blunt.

Max chuckled, "It is true, my dad and my uncles and aunts are perfect examples for that, but I am half warlock so, I fall in love till death does apart", he said and Cas's breath hitched.

"So anyone catch your eyes?", Cas asked looking away, "One did, a special angel, he still is special, but I think he is in love with someone else", Max said coyly and Cas's eye snapped to his.

"Max...", Cas trailed off and looked away, he couldn't look into the blue eyes and not remember the green eyes he always gets lost in.

He had come to say that he liked Max and wanted to pursue a relationship with him, but now he felt that it was wrong.

Everything about his vessel, mind, grace, and memories screamed that this was not the person he had feelings for nor the reason for such feelings.

"I know, it's ok, you still love him", Max said and Cas smiled, "I shouldn't feel any emotions as an angel of the Lord, not love, not happiness, not passion, or anything related. But when I'm with him, I feel all of these things because of him. I don't even think humans feel this intensely. He doesn't express his emotions, but I know him well enough to feel them.", Cas said.

"The worst thing is I'd rather die telling him I love him than move on, which is really bad as far as I know", Cas said and Max smiled.

"It's not bad, it's from you angels, we shadowhunters got that, to love once fiercely", Max said and Cas looked up at him. 

Suddenly he gasped and Max was immediately next to him, Cas held a hand over his heart and held onto Max to keep himself on his feet.

"What's wrong Cas?", Max asked, "Dean, he... he feels so much pain, he's praying to me, he thinks our connection is broken, but the pain... ah...", Cas kneeled in pain.

"I know, Cas. I know our connection is broken and you can't hear me, but I want to apologize. I should have prayed for you and begged you to return, but I was too scared to fall into expectations. I'm sorry, I really am. I know you're happy, but I want you to know that I need you. I love you, and I have loved you for a long time.", Dean prayed breaking down.

Cas gasped with tears in his eyes, "He said he loved me, but... he thought I wouldn't hear, why?", Cas asked himself.

"He is scared of rejection", Max said and Cas looked at him realizing it was true, "How can I respond to it?", Cas asked, and Max's face lit.

"Jealousy", he said and Cas tilted his head confused, "He will get jealous when we act like a couple, but in the end, you will propose to him. Jealousy can be a powerful weapon.", Max said.

"Will it work?", Cas asked, "It usually does, come on let's get on with our plans", Max said helping Cas up.

"Not now, it's nearly evening and if I know him, he won't eat dinner or sleep, and even if he does he will be plagued with nightmares and I have to be there", Cas said and Max smiled.

"Of course, be there for him, show him you'll always be there", Max said and Cas went to fly away but stopped and turned to Max.

"I am sorry", he said and Max smiled and kissed Cas's cheek, "I really like you, Castiel. However, I have experienced falling in love at first sight before and ended up marrying that person. But I believe that you and Dean are meant to be together, as you are soulmates. Even death cannot separate you two, which is a rare and beautiful thing", Max said.

"So go get your man, we can discuss our plans tomorrow", he said and Cas smiled at him thankfully, "Thank you", he mouthed and Max nodded.

"I do like you but now looking into your eyes, my Grace is rejecting it, it's not you, it's me and I am sorry", Cas said and Max blinked his eyes reassuringly.

Cas flew away, Max smiled, and continued his work, Cas was conflicted but he knew one thing for sure, he would get Dean back no matter what.

Cas went to meet Jack and Sam in the bunker, "Cas Dean is-", Sam started, "In his room, yeah I know, I won't cut our connection, but I need your help", Cas said.

"Jack I guess you already know", Cas said and Jack nodded, "Anything Cas", Sam said and Cas quickly filled his and Max's plan and Sam agreed.

"So it's agreed, I'll call Dean for dinner", Cas said getting up and leaving for Dean's room, he knocked on the door.

"Dee- an?", he nearly slipped, "Ca-as?", Dean asked, "Yes Dean? Come on you need to have your dinner", Cas said opening the door and entering the room.

"I am not hungry", Dean said looking away, "Can't lie to me", Cas said, "I thought our bond was broken", Dean whispered fearing his voice would break if he voiced it out loud.

"I don't need our bond to know you, I know you in every way to tell how you feel", Cas said, "Do you?", Dean asked looking at Cas and getting up.

"Dean, me and Max have decided to try something new", Cas said and Dean stopped, "Oh... good, I... come on, I am hungry", Dean said and left immediately.

Cas sighed, "It's ok Dean, it will all be ok, I'll make sure of it", Cas said to himself and followed Dean.
