It is heartbreaking
To see my daughter in such pain
To see the sadness in her eyes that I experienced myself such a long time ago now
I had not known pain like the kind everyone had inflicted on me when I wished to stay by Hades' side.

When I was constantly told how wrong he was for me
That I could do better
That I deserved better
And yet I chose him anyway
I fell for him and I could never leave him, no matter how much he was acting like a fool now.

Macaria and Thanatos made sense
Anyone could see
I have seen for years
As has many others down here
Zeus could see from one conversation with Macaria, a credit to him I envied to give.

"Darling, please talk to me" I begged, listening at the door
Only to receive silence
From my eldest girl

"Macaria" I tried, opening the door slowly
To an empty room

I floated in, looking around
"Mother"
I turned around, seeing her stood in the doorway, in a dark cloak
"Where have you been?" I asked, without anger or judgment... just curiosity

"Can I tell you? Or will you run to father?" She asked
"Macaria" I faltered
Her head ducked
"I am sorry, I..." she sighed, sitting on the bed
"I miss him. I gave a letter to Hypnos. As father is set on separating us" she mumbled sadly

"He will see the truth, he will see Thanatos' love for you" I comforted
"And not my love for him?" She asked
"He does see that my flower. That is why he is trying to drive the narrative that Thanatos is not deserving of you" I explained

"Do you think that?" She asked
"If I thought that. Me and your father never would have found our happiness" I smiled
"He will see it flower, I promise you" I said, as she nodded.

"Please at least drink the water" I begged, sitting at Thanatos' desk
Nothing had changed
Nothing was new
Since he had been back, he had not moved from his place in the window

Where he used to sit
Where he used to stare at Macaria from a distance through glass
It was an odd thing to observe... love.

It was strange to witness when I had never experienced it
But after seeing it in Thanatos
In his sorrow of her absence, I longed for such a feeling
I longed to feel so strongly for another
