THIRTY TWO

Aria drifted awake before her eye fell on Alex who was playing with her hair. "How long have you been awake?" She asked as he smiled kissing her before she pushed him off muttering about morning breath.

"Only a while. Do we have to leave? This is way better than our bed." He mumbled as he stretched out his whole body.

Aria rolled her eyes turning on her side to face him. "Hmm it was a good nights sleep with no interruptions or annoying sisters." Aria smiled since the two had spent the night in a hotel leaving the house free for Meredith and Derek.

Aria smiled at him once again before checking the time. "Our shift starts in 45 minutes we need to get ready for work." She mumbled before Alex smirked leaning over her body.

"Hmm well luckily for you we can be there in 5 minutes." He says before leaning down as he lightly kisses her before he began kissing her neck.

"And what do you have in mind Dr Karev?" Aria chuckled before Alex smirked quickly picking her up before leading the couple into the hotel bathroom.

Aria was working in the E.R before Arizona walked towards her. "Morning Dr Grey." She said smiling brightly at the resident.

"Good morning Dr Robbins. Is everything okay?" She questions looking at her attending.

"I have a neuroblastoma on an 8 year old this afternoon. Would you like to scrub in Dr Grey?" Arizona proposed the question to Aria who smiled brightly at her Attending.

"I would like to very much. Thank you Dr Robbins." Aria says smiling as Arizona handed her the file.

"I will meet you in the patients room in 10 minutes." She says before going to check on her other patients while Aria looked over the patients file preparing for the surgery.

Aria had finished in surgery with Robbins. She was now rounding on some of her patients as Mark approached her. "Hey has Lexie spoken to you?" Mark asks looking at the oldest Grey.

"Not today I've not actually seen her. How come?" Aria asks not looking up as Mark shifts uncomfortably.

"Oh no reason I was just checking." Mark says before turning away. Aria looked up at him with a stern look as she placed her hand on her hip.

"What have you done Mark Sloan?" Aria asks as he turns back to her.

"I was talking to her about maybe moving in and then she wanted to wait like a while well more like a long while. The conversation maybe went a little too far and I started talking about marriage." Mark continued to ramble on before Aria stopped him.

"You think you've scared her off? She hasn't mentioned anything but maybe slow it down. Lexie is still only an intern and she probably just wants to be more stable before making any big changes." Aria suggests as Mark continues to process everything that was being said.

"Yeah hopefully you're right." Mark says as Aria scoffs at him.

"I'm a Grey we're always right. Just give her space she'll come to you when she's ready." Aria said before the two went back to work doing their own tasks.

Aria walked towards Alex wrapping her arms around his waist. She rested her head against his chest as he held her. " I love you." Aria mumbled closing her eyes.

Alex kissed her head gently. "And I love you." He mumbled back before the couple stood with Meredith and Adam. Izzie had decided to let Derek perform the surgery on her tumour. And now all that the residents could do was wait. All they could was to wait and see if Izzie would survive.

All of them trying to find something to believe in or to find hope once again for their friend and wife. Hope that she would get through this surgery and that all would be okay once more.

As Aria lay asleep in Alex's lap, the residents were scattered around Izzie's room. Bailey walked in, waking them all up to check if there had been any changes to her condition overnight.

Cristina mumbled a quick "no" before they all started to wake up. Adam sat beside Izzie, holding her hand. Aria checked the time and got up from her spot beside Alex. "I've got surgery with Robbins. Keep me updated," she said, looking at her sister. She turned to Alex, quickly pecked his lips, and squeezed Adam's shoulder in support before heading to the pediatric floor.

Aria had just finished up with surgery when she spotted Meredith passing by. "Hey, what's the deal with George joining the army?" Aria asked her sister.

"Apparently, he signed up and he's reporting for duty tomorrow. Bailey wants all the residents to gather at the O.R. board. We need to convince him to reconsider," Meredith informed her twin.

"Yeah, I'll be there." Aria noticed that her sister seemed a bit on edge."Hey, what's up, Mer?" Aria asked, her curiosity piqued.

Meredith took a deep breath, her eyes darting around before focusing on Aria. "Derek and I have made a decision. We're heading to City Hall to tie the knot. Just a quiet, low-key affair."

Aria's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Whoa, really? Congratulations, Mer! I'm genuinely happy for you guys."

Meredith smiled, a mix of excitement and nerves. "Thanks, Aria. We just want it to be simple and small."

Aria nodded, understanding her sister's desire for an intimate ceremony. "George in the army just doesn't seem like him at all," Aria muttered as Meredith gave her a concerned look.

"I know, but we'll figure it out," Meredith assured her before heading to her own surgery. Aria then went to check on her post-op patient.

Aria was finished up with her patients before Alex came running towards her. "Aria it's Izzie we need to go now." He said quickly and in a panic.

The couple took off running towards their friends hospital room. Aria's mind raced hoping that Izzie would come back. The two quickly made it to her room. Cristina, Richard and Bailey were working together to save her. Aria walked towards Adam taking his hand as he cried for his wife.

Aria held him watching her friend who was fighting for her life. The next few minutes dragged unknown to the next what would happen. Or what was happening in the O.R not too far away but they would quickly be finding out.
