Two guards were seated on opposite sides of the reception area, engulfed in an extremely awkward silence, one of them was glaring at the other as he looked at his phone.
He was aware of this, though he tried to ignore it. The silence, however, became more and more agonising and the energy emitted by his colleague turned all the more negative. He couldn't bare it anymore and spoke up. "What is it? Come on, spit it out."
"It's nothing." He answered, noticeably frustrated.
He put his phone away to look at him and said: "I already know what you want to say, so just say it already."
"Three words:..." he said, holding three fingers up the american way and then shouted: "I told you!"
"How was I supposed to predict this?" he said, turning his whole body towards him.
And he answered: "Her whole dossier was blacked out, of course she was gonna cause trouble!"
"Stop shouting!" he said, leaning forward.
"I'm not!"
"Yes, you are! And for what? Those two were assholes anyway."
The other sighed and admitted: "Absolutely but it escalated so much. And they all—."
"Who?"
"What do you mean who? I—"
He was quickly interrupted when his colleague said: "Cares?"
The other guy frowned in disappointment to such a lame joke. The would-be comedian walked over to him and told him:
"Just take it easy. What could possibly—?"
"Don't! Every time you say that things get—"
Before he could finish his sentence, both felt their necks being pinched by an invisible force, immediately followed by a painful electrical shock. The two fell limp as they grunted so weakly that they didn't alert anyone.
With the room clear, Spider-Man made his presence known by deactivating his weirdly unique camouflage and looked down at them.
"Sorry."
Only he could hear a voice coming from his communication device saying: "Well, that was awkward. Couldn't you do that sooner."
"I needed to make sure I could get them both at once. Where to now?"
"On that monitor you'll be able to open the cells. You can only open them all at a time so then you will go into the vent, find her and get out."
Miles understood that his camouflage was still needed but he asked: "Won't the others escape, too? Sounds like a bother."
The other answered: "They won't even try it. As long as the collars stay on they're powerless."
Miles did as requested and climbed inside the vent, moving over to the next part of the plan.
Although it was late and even Rachel was asleep, the same couldn't be said for Jessica, who was the first of the two to notice the sound of the door's machinery.
Rachel woke up just in time to see Jessica opening the door. She returned to her senses and told her: "It must be a malfunction."
"Not necessarily..." she said, looking back at her.
Rachel understood that look on her face and warned her: "Without powers, it's impossible. Just stay inside."
But she didn't listen and walked through the door, guided by an instinct that she had with and without a collar.
