Hi! This a big bang in the ending part of the story. Sadly it didn't turn out as spectacular as I hoped it would, but I will try my best to make up for it with next one ;-)
It had been raining non-stop for several days and only now there was a shift in which the firefighters could sit down and breathe instead of wading through ankle-deep water. Fortunately, the roads and sidewalks were no longer flooded, and even the nearby rivers returned to their beds and their condition stabilized significantly. This pleased the firefighters, because they had not been on any action for several hours in a row, and the sun warmed their skin pleasantly as they rolled up the hoses in front of the fire station.
"I'm telling you, I'm sure it was her," Tony began as he brought the last few hoses from Jupiter.
"That Penny was staying at Sam's?" Chris looked at Tony skeptically. "It can't be that easy."
"Are you speaking from experience?" Liam interjected teasingly.
"Maybe they just figured it all out," Julia thought aloud. "Maybe Tony really saw them yesterday. I definitely saw two silhouettes in the window," she pointed behind her at Station Officer Jones, who had just arrived at work. She waited a moment for him to enter the garage, but then lowered her voice to a whisper before continuing. "Do you think these rumors are true? That they still love each other?"
"If they solved their differences so quickly, I think it's highly probable," Tony said.
"You know what happened in the warehouse. That might as well be why they're talking to each other now," Liam noted without much enthusiasm.
"But then would you talk all night?" Julia asked skeptically. "When we came back in the morning the light was still on and I'm sure it was none other than Sam and Penny."
"But how can we be so sure? After all, Andy still lives with Station Officer Jones. Maybe it was him," Liam hesitated. Even he seemed unconvinced by his own opinion.
"First of all, Andy is smaller and I doubt he'd be able to stay up until three in the morning," Julia pointed out. "Besides, you were with us and, like us, you heard Station Officer Jones inviting Penny over, didn't you?" Julia looked at Liam warily.
"Who invites my mom over?" They heard a confused voice behind them and immediately everyone turned to see Andy crossing his arms as if demanding an answer.
"Andy" Liam was the first to realize after the momentary shock. He got up from the ground and put a hand on Andy's shoulder to get his attention. "Do you have what I asked for?" He asked in a conspiratorial whisper.
"I have" Andy confirmed and pulled a pack of balls from his pocket. "But you'll give them back to me, right? I got them from my dad."
"I'll give it back, I promise," Liam assured, then turned back to the rest of his friends. "I'll just show them to Sarah and they'll be yours again. Do you want to help us?" He proposed.
"No," Andy immediately flinched. "I'm going to play with Daisy," he informed and then disappeared into the garage.
"That was close," Tony sighed. "We almost got caught by a child and we managed to avoid Station Officer Jones," Tony said smugly, but then he saw his colleagues waving their hands over their mouths. "What?"
"Is there anything I should know?" Station Officer Jones asked Tony sternly.
Tony swallowed loudly, keeping his eyes on Station Officer Jones's face.
"We're planning a birthday party for..." Chris started and was about to say Hannah's name when Julia interrupted him.
"Sarah".
"What?" Chris looked at her in surprise.
