Elena and Aelia walked together towards the hospital, since Elena didn't have to go to work until this afternoon, she decided to treat her sister to her favorite café "So how did the date go?" Aelia asked her sister nudging her with her elbow as she eat her egg sandwich
Elena laughed, shaking her head "Why don't you ask Alex" Elena suggested knowing he would be more than happy to tell Aelia about their date. Aelia pouted "But I won't see him for another" she took a quick look at her watch "3 minutes. That's sooo long"
Elena threw her head back laughing loudly, Aelia looked at her for a moment before joining in. These were the moments she loved, the moments were Aelia didn't have to be so grown up, were she could laugh and smile, not worrying about her job or her siblings, moments that are so rare, Elena can count on one hand how many times it happens

"Shouldn't he be more excited?" George asked Meredith, Alex and Aelia as they rested at the nurses station
Apparently on his way to work, he was almost crushed by a man who fell off a platform 5 stories in the air, in his words 'The pigeon saved me' which Aelia and Alex rolled their eyes at knowing that a bird couldn't save him
Though the guy wasn't as excited as George was because he survived the fall "He does realize that fall wasn't an accident, right?" Alex whispered to Aelia and Meredith who shushed him
"No he doesn't" Aelia whispered to him giving him a look not to say anything. George was... breakable. He wasn't raised like her or Alex, hell even Meredith was raised to be kind of cold, George wasn't. He wore his heart on his sleeves, taught to be kind to everyone, he wouldn't be able to handle knowing this guy jumped
"I don't know, maybe he's in shock, I don't know... I mean he survived, it's huge! He's gotta realize that things happen for a reason"
Alex snorted "Really? Things happen for a reason? Do you really believe that?" He wasn't the type of person to believe in things like that. 'Things happen for a reason' please, with the amount of shit that happens in the world, what reason would justify that
"Yeah I do. Don't you guys?" George asked looking at Aelia and Meredith "Oh yeah. My ex-boyfriend moved his wife to Seattle. Reason? To torture me" Meredith said smiling sarcastically
Aelia gave her friend a sympathetic smile, while Meredith may be done with Derek Shepherd, Meredith still fell for him, it's going to take some times for her feelings to leave completely
Alex laid a hand on Meredith's shoulder giving her a small smile. Meredith gave one back, these two were the ones keeping her sane through everything that's happening with Derek
Aelia turned back to George "No George I don't believe in things like that. No amount of 'reason' as you put it, can justify the amount of shit that happens in this world" Aelia shrugged going back to her charts while Alex and Meredith nod in agreement
George frowned looking at the three, he couldn't understand why they weren't more excited about this. He gets they each had a hard childhood but this isn't a thing that happens often
Cristina slammed her charts on the nurses station next to George making him jump. The black hair woman looked at her blond-haired person, "What's with the hello kitty on your forehead?" Meredith sighed "I don't wanna talk about it" Cristina shared a look with Aelia but shrugged
"George, can I sign out to you earlier? I have a test date, Burke is testing me" The woman went on, Aelia shared a look with Alex this time and couldn't be more happy that she wasn't dating. A test date? She gets date speeding or whatever that's called but wouldn't it make more sense to talk to for a month or two, to find out if you're good for each other?
George looked like he wanted to disagree but one look from Cristina made him nod "Sure" Cristina nodded and left. George sighed looking back at the three watching him "Carpe diem" George sighed out
"I've got a giant zit on my forehead and I'm beginning to look how I feel" Meredith complained "Carpe that"
Aelia hide her face in Alex shoulder trying not to laugh

Aelia moved around her kitchen humming a song as she made chicken alfredo and homemade garlic bread as Elena and Alex were in the living room with Andrew and the kids upstairs getting washed for dinner
"Hey Ali" Debbie smiled at her sister as she grabbed a water "Hey, Debbie. How was school?" Aelia asked, seasoning the chicken after cutting it up. Debbie shrugged taking a seat at the table to watch her sister "It's okay, but I want to ask you something"
"What's up?"
"There's a dance coming up in a couple of weeks. I was wondering if I could go?" Debbie picked at the label on her water bottle. Aelia looked at her sister and set the pot she was holding on the stove "Debbie, what's wrong?" she asked taking a seat next to her
Debbie shrugged still playing with the bottle "Debbie" Aelia took the bottle from her making her look up "It's just" Debbie sighed "We couldn't go to dances back in Chicago because it was likely we'll be shot. What if that happens here?" Debbie was scared. She's never been to a dance since there was an 70% chance their party would be shot at, she didn't want to die just because she went to a dance
Aelia sighed taking her sister hand in hers "Debbie, I get it, it's scary to know you can be shot at any moment" Debbie nodded, it was very scary "But we can't let that fear run our lives"
"Then why didn't we go to dances back in Chicago?"
"Because back in Chicago it was so much more dangerous. I couldn't live with myself if you guys got hurt but now we're here. We're somewhere where we are protected, and while it won't be perfect, because violence is everywhere, it's better. So if you want to go to that dance then you can. We'll get a dress and do your hair and nails and get you all dolled up"
Debbie sat up, eyes lighting up "Really?"
"Really" Aelia smiled at her sister "Now go hang out with Alex and Elena, while I finish dinner" Debbie nodded grabbing her water and leaving the kitchen. Aelia going back to cocking

It was the next day, Aelia was walking in the hospital with Alex when they caught sight of a downtrodden George and Meredith "What happened?" Alex whispered knowing she would know since Meredith would have told her "Window washer guy died" Aelia told him walking in the hospital
"Ah" Alex nodded. No one wanted to tell George that the guy had jumped but they knew he would figure it out "I don't get why he would think he wouldn't" Alex didn't say it to be insensitive, Aelia knew, he was saying it because the guy had to much damage
"George likes to believe everything's going to work out" Aelia told him handing her bag to him as she opened her locker grabbing their scrubs "We're different. You look at the bad than work towards the good. I'm in the middle and move with the waves. George only looks at the good, needing it to work out"
Alex pulled on his scrub pants and looked at his sister "I thought you saw the good in the world?" He questioned. He knew his sister wasn't so bubbly, but she was like the light in the darkness, to a lot of people. It's why everyone loves her, because while she has been hurt, she still the light people need
"I have to see the good in the world, or I will fall apart" Aelia told him pulling on her shirt "But just because I see the good, doesn't mean I don't see the bad. I just have to choose which one I follow"
Alex looked at his sister before nodding. Even if they have some of the same background, Aelia has been through a lot more than he could have ever known
