~~The Enchanted Forest(Past)~~

My eyes snapped open as I took in my surroundings. Metal bars, stone walls, and straw on the floor. I was in my mother's dungeon again. I stood up without any issue; when I did, ash fell off my body. I was covered in dark ash from head to toe. I didn't know why or how it got on me. I didn't feel any pain, which is weird because I was stabbed in the back from what I remember. I died, so how am I alive?

I looked around and saw the cage door was shut, which meant it was locked too. I walked over to it and fiddled with the lock. It didn't open. I tried magic on it and nothing happened. I looked down at my ash-covered arm and saw the cuff again. I sat down on the ground, defeated and exhausted. I moved the ash around with my hand, making them even more dirty. I had no idea what happened or how my mother got me here. Right now, all I could think about was Hook. If he was okay, and if Riker was alive and safe. I was broken from my thoughts when I heard the familiar woosh of smoke. I saw her standing at the doors. A surprised look on her face.

"Hello, mother." I said disdainfully.

"You're alive." She said as she stood there on the other side, taunting me.

"Yeah, I'm wondering the same thing. I got stabbed in the back, so I should be dead. Care to enlighten me?" She looked down at the ground, then back at me.

"Did I ever tell you you're father named you?" I sadly shook my head.

"You didn't. Why is that of any importance?" I picked up a few pieces of straw and played with them.

"You're father at one point could see the future. He took the powers of a seer a long time ago. When you were born he saw something. Besides the magic in you, he saw something else." I stayed silent. "He saw you were born as another being." I narrowed my eyes.

"Another being? Like I'm something else?" She nodded. "What am I? How am I alive?"

"I didn't believe it until just now. You came back to life. I didn't think you would." I was growing irritated.

"Mother just tell me what I am!" I demanded.

"You're a phoenix." She said softly.

"A phoenix?" I looked back down at the ashes and it all made sense. "Why didn't I know this?"

"You're father didn't want you to. He said he didn't want you to grow up testing how many lives you had. Or intentionally killing yourself to find out what it was like." I silently agreed. It is something I would have done. "He named you Phoenix because he knew you were going to be strong one day. He knew you would always rise up from the ashes, no matter the situation."

"Were you ever going to tell me?" She shook her head again.

"No. I didn't believe anything he said."

"All these secrets. This constantly being trapped. This is why I left, mother. You can't treat me like an animal." She sighed and walked closer to the doors. I stayed sitting down. "So, not only do I have magic, but I have infinite lives?"

"We don't know. The phoenix is a very rare breed. The last known one was an ancestor of yours. It must have skipped all these generations." I rubbed my face, hearing all this stuff that she knew and never told me, was making me more angry.

"As of right now, I can't die? There's nothing that can kill me?"

"Nothing that is any of the books we read. There's legends and people who know about them." I stood to my feet.

"Then, let me out of here. I want to find out more." I begged. "I need to know who I am." She touched my hand through the bars.

"I can't let you do that." I removed my hand from under hers.
