Aarohi POV
I heard my inner voice whispering, 'It's not because of the marriage itself; it's about my dad's indifference towards my life decisions. There has never been love in his eyes for me.'
While battling my inner turmoil, I noticed my mother and Aarav Bhai entering the room, prompting me to swiftly dry my tears.
As my mother held me close, she murmured, "I'm sorry, my child. I've never felt so powerless in my life. I wish I could fight for you, but considering your father, it's pointless." I am aware that my mother's ultimate goal is my happiness. If it were up to her, she would move heaven and earth for me.
Holding her hand, I said confidently, "Mom, have faith in me. I'm feeling positive. An arranged marriage has always been my preference, remember? So, there's nothing to worry about" I continued, managing my tears, "Emotions stirred within me as the reality of having to leave you all sank in."
Aarav bhai comforted me by patting my head. "Ma, bhai, it's getting late. Go get some rest and don't worry about me. I'm okay", I reassured them.
As he left the room, my brother left me with one heartfelt message, "Ruhi, always remember that I'm here for you. If you ever need me, just say the word. I'll do anything for you without needing to know why." This was what made me feel positive.
I attempted to drift off to sleep while gazing at the stars, cradled by the embrace of the night sky, hopeful for a better tomorrow.
Whenever sadness or melancholy clouds my mind, there's solace to be found in the stars above. Their twinkling brilliance offers a sense of peace that soothes my troubled soul. Drifting off to sleep under their celestial canopy is an unparalleled sensation, as if the universe itself is cradling me in its embrace, whispering secrets of serenity into the quiet night.
Feeling restless upon waking in the morning, I swiftly got ready and went to have my breakfast. As I went towards the dining area, I saw that everyone was already gathered there for breakfast.
"We're expecting guests today, so come home early" dad said. I acknowledged with a nod."Invite Tara to join you today, it'll make things easier for you," Mom said, showing her concern. I nodded in approval and gave an affirmative response. "I'll go now; otherwise, I'll end up being late," I declared before leaving the house.
Tara, as always, was waiting for me outside. After a hug, we began our journey to college.
During our corridor stroll, we were obstructed by a group of guys. Darn it, those are the same bullies we faced yesterday.
"Oh, look who's strutting around like they own the place because we let you off the hook yesterday?" One of the bullies commented. In a split second, one guy seized my hand and started dragging me, while another guy held Tara by her neck.
"Take them to the ground and let everyone witness who they should steer clear of", their head said. "Leave immediately, and I may choose to be merciful," Tara said fearlessly, her eyes unwavering.
I attempted to escape his grasp, but he tightened his hold, causing me to whimper in pain, "Ouch!" Tara's anger was palpable as she landed a forceful blow to the guy's groin, enabling her to break free from his hold.
The guy's rage peaked as he grabbed Tara's hand and raised his hand to strike her, but before he could, Rajveer appeared and intercepted his hand mid-swing.
Rajveer fixed his gaze on the leader and spoke with gravity, "Karthik, gather your lackeys and leave, or I'll be forced to unleash my anger."
Despite the intensity in Karthik's gaze, he silently signaled for everyone to leave with a single look.
"Not so fast, - Clutching Karthik's collar tightly, - Tara jeered, "Getting a taste of pain so soon?" as she landed a blow to his face, causing blood to spill from his lips. "Mess with Tara Vikram Singh at your own peril. Choose wisely" she continued. Surprisingly, Karthik didn't react at all, as if he was mesmerized by Tara's eyes.
Gripping her hand, I sought to guide her away from the commotion. As we strolled, I caught sight of Mayank standing near the pillar, a slight distance from our location. Having settled her at our desk, I then went towards Mayank.
"Are they frightening you?" I questioned, seeing the lingering fear in his eyes while he stood. "I've been bullied before, even in school. It's not about their strength or my capabilities, it's the fear of standing alone without anyone by my side if I decide to speak up. I fear loneliness." His voice trembled with pain as he spoke.
"I can only imagine how tough that must have been for you. It's incredibly brave to share these experiences. Remember, while family and friends are there to support us, we ultimately navigate this world on our own. They're like pillars that help us cope, but the journey is ours to walk. If someone walks away because you stood up for yourself, they weren't meant to stay. Being kind to ourselves is crucial, allowing others to bring us down only gives them power. You are not inferior to anyone, and by valuing yourself, you set the standard for how others should treat you." How is it that I can offer words of solace to him, but when it's time to apply them to myself, I find myself lost in an ocean of uncertainty?
"Will you, Tara, and Rajveer still support me even if I stand up for myself?" He asked. "Always" I assured him. "Wait, You and Rajveer are friends now?" I asked, with a raised brow. He gave a cute nod in response.
"I asked him to help out earlier." He spoke, the uncertainty in his words unmistakable.
I reminded him that we should go since the class might start soon.
As I settled next to Tara in the class, I thanked Rajveer for his earlier support. He simply nodded in response.
"Thanks for stepping in earlier", after the class, Tara broached the subject with Rajveer. He responded, "I appreciate your help too."
Tara queried, "When did I give you help?" He responded with a smirk, glancing in our direction and left.
"Ajeeb insaan" I remarked.
[ Weirdo]As we said goodbye, we hailed a cab, and I filled Tara in on everything that happened last night. After taking it all in, she cupped my hand and asked, "Are you okay?"
After a short pause, I said, "Could you be there for me?" I feel a bit awkward asking for help, worried that people might see it as a way to earn their sympathy.
"This is what I was talking about. Whatever is on your mind, just voice your thoughts. I'm here to support you, no matter what" Tara’s way of comforting me always makes me think of her as the kindest woman. No matter the situation, she stands by me, supports me, and cares for me unconditionally.
