Aarohi POVOnce our class concluded, Mayank and I eagerly headed to the cafe for our first day. Meanwhile, Rajveer and Tara decided to head home.
Upon arrival, the manager instructed us on the basics of the job, and after donning our aprons, we were ready to get started.
The door of the cafe swung open, and in walked our first customer. To my surprise, it was Dev Raichand. I couldn't help but notice his tall stature, muscular physique, captivating eyes, and handsome face. His presence exuded a powerful aura that was hard to ignore.
Am I attracted to him? Shut up, Aarohi, you're engaged! Even if our relationship isn't like those of other engaged couples, you still can't think about another man. But then again, my inner voice whispered, "Having a crush isn't a crime or wrong."
"Dev Raichand? Our first customer! Damn, if we post this on social media, we're going to be super famous," Mayank chirped in excitement.
I shot him a look that said, "Really?" arching my brows with a hint of seriousness.
He nudged me slightly and said, "You go and take his order, I'll get things ready here."
The moment our eyes met, it was as though a silent conversation unfolded between us, a wordless exchange that spoke volumes. In that brief moment, it felt like our souls connected on a deeper level, transcending the ordinary reality around us. Through that eye contact, I feel understood on a soul-deep level. My heart fluttered, betraying the boundaries I had set for myself. Engaged or not, this feeling was wrong, yet undeniably intoxicating. I needed to rein in these emotions, to remind myself of the commitment I had made.
No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!
Breaking the spell of our eye contact, I quickly shifted my focus to the practical matter at hand, asking them for their order. His friend responded, snapping me back to the present moment.
"Anything else, sir?" I inquired once more, to which his friend reiterated, "No."
As I made my way back to the counter, I couldn't help but notice the warmth in my cheeks. I touched them lightly, wondering why I was feeling flushed. Passing the order to Mayank, I tried to shake off the strange sensation.
Standing by the counter, I couldn't resist stealing glances in his direction. I chided myself internally, questioning my sudden teenage-like behaviour.
Unexpectedly, Tara and Rajveer appeared at the cafe, surprising us all.
"Tumhe kya lagta hai, hum tumhare pehle din tumhare saath nahi honge?," Tara said, enveloping both of us in a hug, while Rajveer tried to break our embrace by playfully pushing us away from each other.
[ What do you think, we wouldn't be with you on your first day? ]"Thank you," I whispered, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Grab a seat, I'll fetch you something tasty," I grinned, motioning towards a table.
Interestingly, Tara joined for my first day, but Rajveer's presence surprised me. I wonder if he came because Tara would be here?
I was busy with some tasks around the counter while Mayank was attending to customers. Suddenly, a group of guys approached and began arguing about their mixed-up order. The situation escalated quickly, and before we knew it, they had Mayank by the collar.
I rushed over to intervene, but before I could reach them, Rajveer stepped in, grabbing one of the guys by his hair and swiftly pushing him to the ground with a single strike.
Before the guy could land a blow on Rajveer, Tara swiftly struck his leg, causing him to stumble and fall to the ground.
Rajveer's gaze turned icy as he fixed his eyes on them, a look that could instil fear in anyone's heart. It was no surprise that they quickly fled from the cafe, their faces pale with terror.
