Dev POV
As my eyes blinked open, I found her head resting against mine, the dawn creeping in through the windows, casting a soft glow. The dark was fading, making way for a new beginning. Gently, I shifted her head onto my shoulder, realizing her neck might be sore from the awkward position. I stayed still, watching her sleep peacefully, waiting for her to wake.
When her eyes fluttered open, I took a moment to admire her. How could someone look so graceful, so effortlessly beautiful, just after waking up? Her eyes were still a little sleepy, yet they held that same dreamy softness. Her beauty was beyond compare, and her voice, the sweetest melody, greeted me in a whisper, "You could’ve woken me."
I shook my head, smiling. "Are you hungry?" I asked, my voice tender. She nodded shyly, and without a word, I took her hand, helping her into the car. As we drove to a nearby place, the world felt lighter, filled with the quiet intimacy of the moment shared between us.
During our morning meal, I inquired delicately, "Are you getting late for the university?" She responded with a gentle shake of her head, sporting a soft smile, and revealed, "We have exams in a few days, so I will be studying at home." With a tender gesture, I casually brushed away a stray crumb from the corner of her mouth and whispered, "Thank you for yesterday." Her grin widened, exuding warmth as our gazes met.
Following dropping her off athe t residence, I proceeded directly to the office, still dwelling on the events of the previous night. Once settled there, my attention was drawn to the phone I had acquired from Khurana, resting on my desk.
Taking it in hand, I commenced scrutinizing its contents, determined to unearth any clues or concealed information that could aid me in uncovering the truth. Each text message and call log held the promise of divulging more about the enigma shrouding my father's demise.
While this appeared to be Khurana's official business phone, potentially devoid of direct incriminating evidence, I couldn't discount the chance of stumbling upon a minor oversight, a cryptic message, an innocuous contact. I meticulously sifted through every communication, each call record, persistently searching for the elusive missing piece of the puzzle.
Delving further, my focus shifted towards examining the list of shareholders in Zar and Macaron, two enterprises deeply intertwined with Khurana’s vast network. With caution, I began dissecting each name, endeavoring to establish connections where feasible. Although a few names seemed recognizable, one glaring observation emerged, there existed a group of common stakeholders involved in both entities.
Encircling the names of these shareholders, I mentally noted to conduct a thorough investigation. Should these individuals truly be collaborating, then they must be linked to the puppet master through their business interactions. It now becomes imperative to trace the path, exposing their social liaand isons, financial transactions, and, ideally, inching closer towards unraveling the enigma surrounding my father's untimely passing.
Exhaling audibly, I reclined in my chair, thoughts racing. A shadowy presence looms over this intricate web of intrigue, and I seem to be making headway in drawing them out into the open.
Commencing my investigation, I first scrutinized the initial shareholder's name within Khurana’s email archives. However, my search yielded nothing but routine official engagements and innocuous business transactions. Yet, when I turned my attention to the second shareholder's identity, the narrative took an intriguing twist. This individual's inbox bore an air of intrigue, replete with cryptic discussions on shipping particulars, anomalies devoid of formal context, suggestive of clandestine dealings designed to evade a paper trail.
Delving deeper into these enigmatic correspondences, I uncovered a plethora of coded emails revolving around shipments and covert exchanges. Then, within a specific thread, the fragments coalesced into a coherent picture. A triumphant grin adorned my face, the exhilaration of revelation coursing through my veins. Settling back in my chair, I muttered under my breath, "Got you."
