Racheals POV
I stepped out of the shower wrapped a towel around myself and left the bathroom. I walked over to the bed where the shopping back laid and emptied its contents on the bed.I grabbed the underwear followed by the bra and slipped them on before wearing the dress they bought for me, which consisted of a simple black handless maxi gown which hugged my figure perfectly. I finished off the look with a jean jacket on top, grabbed my phone off the bed and I was good to go.
I opened the door and found Vincent already standing at the entrance with hands deep in his pocket. His eyes slowly raked over my form, taking his time to shamelessly check me out.
"Come I'll drive you to the station" he cleared his throat. "It's fine I can take a cab you've already done a lot for me" i said politely declining.
"You either let me drive you willingly or we do it the hard way but with either way I'm driving" he said with a tone of finality. I opened my mouth to object again but he only narrowed his eyes at me daring me to go against him.
"Good let's go" he said with a smirk when I didn't say anything.I expected him to walk away like he normally did, but he stepped aside letting me go through first.
I replied with a huff, crossed my arms over my chest and took a step forward. I noticed the way his eyes flickered down to my breasts before he licked his lips and looked away.
He placed a hand on my lower back and lead me out of the house. I waved Sarah and the others goodbye as we stepped out of the house.
Vincent led me to his Audi, opened the passengers door for assisted me in. He closed the door behind me when I was comfortably seated, went around the car got into the drivers seat and started the car.
I stared out the window as I leaned my head on it, lost in the memories me and Lizzie shared together.
It doesn't feel real. We went to school together yesterday morning, talked in the kitchen and now she's laying lifeless in a mortuary while I'm heading to the police station to drop my statement so we can find her killer. It all feels like a horrible dream and all I want to do is wake up.
I blinked back to reality when I realized we were no longer moving. I looked over to the drivers seat to see Vincent staring ahead with clenched jaws as he griped the steering wheel tightly. I felt something roll down my cheeks, I wiped it off with my fingers and sighed when I realized I was crying.
"Thank you......For everything" I said keeping my eyes ahead. He remained quiet but I could feel his gaze on me, he turned away from me and stared ahead which I took as a hint to get out.
I clicked off the seatbelt turned to face him, offered him a weak smile and stepped out. I guess he isn't as stoic as I thought but he still scares the shit out of me.
I sucked in a breath as I stared at the moderate yet intimidating building in front of me.
"I can do this... for lizzie" I whispered to myself as I climbed up the stairs and pushed open one of the double doors. The place looked like any normal police station, cubicles here and there which held police officers who were busy with one thing or the other.
Just when I was having an inner battle with myself on who to approach I heard my name being called. "Racheal Davison" I turned around to see a police officer who looked to be a little older than me approach with a file and coffee in his hand.
"Are you Racheal Davison?" I'm sorry if I'm mistaken" he said politely. "It's me" I muttered stuffing my hands into my jacket pocket.
"I'm Micheal Sanders. I'm the one handling Elizabeth's case pleasure to meet you" he said stretching his hand out for a handshake. "the pleasure is mine"I said shaking his hand.
"Right this way" he released my hand and led me to a cubicle which I assumed was his. "Have a seat" he pointed to the seat opposite his.
"First of all I just want to say I'm so sorry for your loss" he said giving me a sympathetic smile while I just gave him a small one in return not knowing how to reply.
"So can you tell me everything that happened concerning the case, anything no matter how little can help find the killer" he said and I nodded. I narrated everything to him from that morning till when I found her body.
"By the statement you've dropped and the proof through text messages, it shows that you weren't the last person who saw Elizabeth but her boyfriend Derek if I'm not mistaken" he said and I nodded.
"Thank you so much for you cooperation Miss Davison, me and my team will bring Derek in for questioning as he is currently our prime suspect. I'll keep you updated on the case" he said and I nodded as I felt my throat close up at the thought of Derek murdering lizzie. For my sake and his I really hope it wasn't him.
"Thank you officer Sanders" I said gratefully as I stood up and left his cubicle. I brought out my phone from my jacket pocket about to call an Uber as i made my way to the exit but stopped when I heard my name. "Rach" I froze and cursed.
I wasn't ready to face her yet. I looked up to see an older version of lizzie standing outside with puffy eyes as she leaned on Lizzie's father.
Not being able to hold back I ran into her arms. She engulfed me in a hug as we weeped together. "I'm sorry" I apologized. For not being there for her. Before we left for college I promised Lizzie's mum I'll protect her as she had a tendency of always getting into trouble but I failed and I would ever forgive myself.
