Racheals POV
"It wasn't your fault" she sobbed as she hugged me. "You did your best" she said stepping out of the hug.
"how are you doing?" She asked holding me at arms length as she scanned me. I couldn't find the words to say how I felt, as I felt my throat close up so I just nodded.
"Take care of yourself okay? And don't forget to call" she said wiping my tears off my cheek and placed a kiss on my forehead. I stepped aside as she gave me one last lingering look as her husband guided her into the station.
I sighed at the cold shoulder I got from Lizzie's father, he never liked me from day one always tended to be a little racist saying I wasn't to be trusted.
I shoved my hand into my jacket pocket as I came down the stairs of the station but paused midstep when I stared ahead and noticed Vincent's car the same spot it was when I went into the station with him leaning on it. His gaze was fixed on me not caring about the ogling and curious eyes of the people around.
I drew my jacket closer to my body as I made my way over to him. "I thought you left" I said when I stopped in front of him.
"I'd never leave you" he said with all seriousness causing a little blush to rise on my cheek. I turned my head to the side so he wouldn't notice but I couldn't help but feel his words had another meaning or it was just me overthinking it.
"Come" he said making his way over to the passengers side and opened the door for me. I slipped into the seat clipping my seatbelt. He shut the door, turned around and slipped into the drivers seat.
He turned on the ignition pulled out of the parking space we occupied and into the streets of Durham.
We pulled up in front of a cute diner. Vincent opened his door, stepped out and I followed tow. I looked over to him and noticed the pointed look he was giving me. I thought for a moment about what I did and rolled my eyes when I realized he was glaring at me cos I didn't let him open my door.
"It doesn't matter" I waved him off as I made my way into the diner with him following closely behind.
We stepped into the cozy diner made our way to the far corner of the restaurant and slipped into the booth by the window with Vincent slipping into the other opposite mine.
We both sat in silence as we skimmed through the menu's. Well he skimmed through I just kept staring at the menu "hello welcome to Millie's diner what can I get you?" A high pitched voice said but I kept quiet since I didn't feel like eating.
A couple moments passed and Vincent hadn't uttered a word. I looked up from the menu to find him already looking at me. "What?" I asked
"Order" he answered. "I'm not hungry" I shrugged and he glared at me. Yikes. That look was scary.
"I'll have a cheese burger with fries on the side" I said to the waitress. "Any drinks?" She asked scribbling down on her notepad "water will be fine" I added.
"And you sir?" She asked Vincent. "I'll take the same" he said with his gaze fixed on me.
"Alright I'll be back with your foods" she smiled and walked off. My eyes flickered around the cafe taking in the details as I tried to get my mind of lizzie and Vincent whose stare was currently boring a hole in my skull.
"You're staring" I said turning to look out the window. "So?" He asked and I just sighed not having the strength in me to retort back.
"You're pretty" he said suddenly. My gaze shifted from the window to him. I raised a brow at him and he did the same.
"I look like a nun" I said licking my chapped lips. "A sexy nun" he said and I chuckled. "A nun isn't supposed to be sexy, a Christian is going to find that offensive" I stated.
"Are you a Christian?" He asked pushing a piece of his hair back."yes I am" I said placing my hands on the table.
"Wow I was definitely not expecting that" he said "Why not?" I asked with raised brows.
"Cos nothing about you screams believer actually, like the way you dress and your choice in career no offense really" he said and I shrugged. This is actually the most I've heard him say. With the way he behaves I noticed he doesn't like talking much.
"I'm not really like a committed devotee but I believe in him and I go to church every once in a while but I do pray a lot" I said and he hummed.
"Here's your food" the waitress came back and placed our plates in front of us "thank you" I said with a smile "enjoy" she smiled back and walked away.
I grabbed the burger off my plate and took a bite. I moaned in delight at the taste.
"Good?" He asked and I nodded since my mouth was already full.
*
I shoved the last fry into my mouth and frowned at the empty plate in front of me."Did you eat mine?" I glared at Vincent who has been watching me the whole time. He just shrugged and continued staring.
"Are you going to eat that?" I pointed at his untouched food in front of him. He didn't say anything and slid it over to me.
I gave him a thankful smile and dug in.
The waitress came with the check when we were done and I pulled out my phone about to wire her the money, but Vincent placed a hundred dollar bill on the table and told her to keep the change.
"Let's go" he stood up waiting for me to stand as well and led me out of the diner. "You didn't have to pay I'll wire you back the money" I said as he opened the passengers door for me.
