(Tuesday morning)

Turns out, Lana had to do very little convincing to come stay with me and my mom until September. Her parents knew us well enough and trusted us. Plus, they probably knew I would be better at cheering Lana up than they would.

She would move in on Saturday and all would be good. I'd help her get over Chris and hopefully she'd be happy again.

As an organized person, I had everything planned out. Lana would stay in my room and would use my upstairs bathroom. I was thankful that my room was big enough to fit two beds and all of her stuff.

Mom had agreed to letting Lana stay but she was strict on having her leave before school started. We all agreed that Lana would leave before then.

To be honest, I was very excited to live in the same city as her again. It seemed like just ages ago we were living in Brinkleyville together.

(Thursday)

It was Tuesday evening when the second text from Josh came to my phone.

Answer me, Hayley.

It's been two full days since his text and I haven't written him anything. I was proud of myself.

Of course, I informed Taylor and decided to let Lana know Josh was trying to get in contact with me again. Her reaction was calmer than I was expecting. When I had told her yesterday, all she mentioned was that it didn't surprise her at all. Apparently, Josh has been bugging Lana about me and where I live, etc.

It was creepy, I'll admit, knowing that my ex wanted my address and had somehow gotten my number. Very creepy.

Also according to Lana, Josh has been trying to become a 'better person'. He's been waving at her in the mornings, making conversation on how her day went, how she was doing, etc.

Somehow it all confused me even more. Why on earth would he want me back after cheating on me?

"Hayles, I'm going to run some errands around town okay?" Mom's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Okay." I respond, smiling at her.

She returned the smile and leaned in to hug me. "Make sure you answer your phone if I text or call. Love you."

After reassuring her that she had nothing to worry about, I watched her leave out the front door. Shortly after, I walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa. Even though it was just a little after 5, I was exhausted. I knew it was time to get some rest. Closing my eyes and getting into a comfortable position, I let myself slowly drift off.

It took many, many shifts of my body to finally wake myself up. Rubbing my eyes, still laying there, I searched around for my phone. When my hand touched it, I lifted it and checked for any missed calls or messages. None. I glanced at the time. It read 9:37. Groaning loudly and frustratedly, I sat up and placed my feet on the ground.

Slowly, I got up. The house was completely dark so that made it harder to see how to get into the kitchen from the living room. It was also harder to try and keep my eyes open. They kept wanting to close as I walked towards the kitchen.

Making my way around the island counter, I didn't bother to grab any snack. Sleep was the only thing that interested me right now. Finally, I was out of the kitchen.

But, I wasn't even able to make it past the front door before hearing a knock. My feet came to an abrupt halt and I whipped my head to the left; the front door. My eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. Who the heck was knocking on my door?

Cautiously and tiredly, I made my way quietly to the door and flicked the porch light on. Sadly enough there were no pretty windows on the front door so I couldn't see outside even if I wanted to. I reached for the latch and unlocked it. Then, unlocked the door.

My hand grasped the knob and I turned it, slowly. I backed up to open the door fully. For a moment, it took my eyes some time to adjust to the porch light's brightness. Suddenly, I was more than wide awake.

It was him.

His brown hair glistened and was freshly cut. He looked very different; so much different looking than the last time I had seen him. His eyes were still light brown. A grin plastered his face but I couldn't tell if it was a kind smile or not. Instead, I stood there, in complete and utter shock as I stared at the guy in front of me.

"Finally."
