Moving is not easy. Especially when you're only 5'3. I've been short my entire life. Sometimes my height was a pain but sometimes it came in my favor. Lets just put it this way--I'm an expert at hide and go seek.
The boy who had helped me unpack earlier was Taylor York. Turns out he's actually 17. The same age as I am. When he told me his age, all I could do was laugh. I probably looked like a fool but I couldn't help it. I thought he was 14!
I smiled, laying in bed. My eyes were open and I was staring at the ceiling. It was quiet but only because my mom had to travel back to our old house. She explained to me that she accidentally left her folder of work paper there. I told her it was okay and that I'd be fine. But what I didn't prepare myself for was the silence.
My bedroom light was off and my window was open. Suddenly I heard people outside. Probably on their porches, I thought. Curiosity got the best of me and before I knew it I was sitting up in my bed. Thankfully my window was right above my bed so all I had to do was look.
Several boy teenagers, including Taylor, were standing in the street. There were two mustangs, both red, parked beside each other evenly. The teens were standing in front of them, talking. I inched closer to the window trying to make out their voices.
"Dude, I said at 12. It's only 11. Chill." Taylor. My eyebrows came together in confusion but I continued to listen.
"He's just excited. He gets like this every Friday night." Some other teen responded. I saw Taylor shake his head. "Yeah, I already know."
After a moment of silence, a red headed teen spoke. "Tay, who was that girl you were helping?" He was smirking.
Tay smiled. "Her name is Hayley. She's our new neighbor." Some guy bumped shoulders with him. Tay began to shake his head, "She's cool." The boys nodded.
I began to lean forward but accidentally hit my head on the window. "Ow!" My hand flew to my forehead and pain rushed through, causing a headache.
"Ow, ow, ow. Dammit!" My feet swung over the bed and I stood up. I struggled to find my light switch so I ran my left hand along the wall close to my door. Finally my hand brushed over it. Yes! Once my light was on, I went to one of my opened packing boxes and pulled out my tiny makeup mirror. A scratch.
"Great," I muttered out loud. "Way to go, Hayles." I was now lonely and bruised. Okay, maybe I was being too dramatic but it hurt! Suddenly, a whistle came from my window. Whipping my head to face it, I realized my window was still open and now the teens in the street were staring.
My face grew hot. Really quick. I was so embarrassed. Quickly I put the mirror back in the box and ran to my light switch. And when I say I ran, I literally ran. As soon as my room was dark again, I was smiling.

After about 30 minutes more of laying in bed, I finally decided I was hungry. Okay, maybe I wasn't too hungry but a late night snack wouldn't hurt. The new house was a two story house so we had stairs. I wasn't too happy about the stairs. This was why. As soon as I left my room and walked down the hallway, I couldn't find the light switch for the stairs. For minutes I cursed at myself aloud while attempting to try and find the switch. The hallway light was on but it was not helping, in any way. Squinting, I managed to find it. Sighing, I flicked the switch up and there was light. Hallelujah! I jumped and then patted myself on the back. Well done, Hayles. Well done.
Luckily when I got to the kitchen the light was already on. The kitchen was decent sized. Big enough for two people. But I knew right away I'd have one hell of a time getting down there at night. I rummaged through the fridge until I found an apple. For a while I argued with myself if I should get the jar of peanut butter or not. Hayles, get it. It'll taste AH-MAZING with the apple! Hayley Nicole Williams. Do not grab the jar.
