(Monday morning)
Hey, it's Josh.
That one simple text stayed glued to the inside of my head as I slept. It even crept into my brain when I opened my eyes this morning.
To be honest, the text scared me. It scared me a lot.
Josh was the last person I wanted to see. He was even the last person I wanted to be in contact with. But here he was, with my phone number, texting me again.
Last night, I couldn't bare looking at those three words so I did what I do best and fell asleep. What was I supposed to say anyway?
'Hey Josh, ex-boyfriend who broke my heart and shattered it into a billion gazillion pieces, how ya doing?'
Nope.
So basically up until this point, I have been sleeping. But of course (curse my human body) eventually my eyes opened and reality hit me like a train. Josh did write me. He actually wrote me.
I didn't know why I was making this such a big deal but it just was. Like, who does that? Who on earth would have the guts to text their ex out of the blue after months of not talking to her?
Here I was again, but this time at 9 am in the morning, staring at my phone screen. It all confused me. And frustrated me dearly.
Finally, I decided on what I would do. Josh wouldn't be receiving a text from me.
I put my phone on the nightstand and sat there for a moment before sitting up. It was crazy bright inside my room because of the sun but I didn't mind. Standing up, I put in my contacts and then put on some jeans and a t-shirt. Then, I heard a ding. Immediately, my head jerked towards my phone on the nightstand. His name splattered my mind.
For a moment I was unsure as to what I should do but slowly I made my way over to my phone and picked it up. By this point, my heart was slamming against my chest. Cautiously & nervously, I looked at my lit up lockscreen.
Taylor: Good morning beautiful <3
"Thank God!" I exclaimed, letting out a huge sigh of relief before plopping onto my bed. Quickly, I wrote him back.
Good morning.. I have bad news
Seconds later, he wrote.
Taylor: Which is?
Josh somehow got my number and wrote me last night...
Taylor: what did he say?
"Hey, it's Josh." Those were his exact words.
Taylor: Did you say anything?
Nope.. I've been so nervous, I didn't sleep good at all
Taylor: You don't need to worry about anything okay? I'm here and I promise to keep you safe Hayles. You know that right?
I bit my lip, something I always did when I was nervous. Closing my eyes, I repeated Taylor's words in my head.
Before I had the chance to reply to him, another text popped up.
Taylor: I'll be able to see you Friday. Just make sure if he sees you or writes you again, that you let me know okay?
Okay I will. I really cannot wait to see you.
Taylor: oh I know ;) I've got a surprise for you when I come back.
Immediately, I began to think of the thing he could've possibly gotten me. Then it hit me like a brick. It was a kiss. I smiled like a fool and wrote him back.
Can't wait <3

(Monday evening; on front porch)"Love is stupid." Lana groaned over the phone. Apparently, while James was facing heartbreak, Lana too was facing heartbreak.
She had been dating Chris for almost a full year. He was so sweet to her. He'd bring her flowers out of the ordinary and treat her to many, many movie dates. Anytime Lana was happy, people knew he was the reason behind it. I'd met him tons of times and at first I did have doubts but overtime I gave in and accepted the fact that he made my best friend happy.
According to Lana, she was doing her usual errands in Brinkleyville this morning when she decided to stop by Starbucks for coffee. This time though, she did the unusual and actually went inside. Which was very rare, especially when it came to Lana. She explained to me that she had this feeling she had to go in. Of course, she didnt think much of it.
So, there she was standing in the Starbucks line at 9 a.m. She had mentioned looking around several times and not noticing much. But, after waiting minutes in line, something caught her eye. Not something but someone.
At first, she had told me, her mind and thoughts wouldn't cooperate with her. Instead she just stood there in line, watching Chris put his arm around some girls shoulder. She watched as they placed small kisses on each others cheeks and lips. The mere thought made me shudder.
Hurt, pain, and anger washed over my best friend then. She couldn't even think straight. In that moment, all she could do was wait. So, instead of yelling and tearing everything apart, she casually ordered her iced coffee. As she waited, closer to where Chris and the girl sat, she kept her gaze forward and away from them. They were to her left and clearly focused on each other.
"Iced coffee! Have a good day ma'am." The Starbucks employee had said to Lana while handing her her drink.
Lana told me that after the guy handed her her iced coffee, everything happened so quickly. She mentioned turning around suddenly and walking over to them. Chris had looked up to see who was interrupting his make out session but Lana didn't bother saying anything to his shocked expression. By then, the girl he was with was looking at Lana oddly, very confused.
Lana had quickly took the lid off of her iced coffee and let her anger do the rest. She then lifted the cup over Chris' head, titled it and let the drink spill over him and his date. And with that, my best friend wasted no time walking out of Starbucks, not bothering to look back.
"Now, I wouldn't say love is stupid. But it is pretty sucky." I said, now in response to Lana's statement about love.
She was such a strong girl and I hated she was going through all of this pain because of him.
"Yeah, it's sucky alright. I've probably gained 20 pounds from all this chocolate I've been eating." Again, she groaned. I could hear her chewing on something on the other end of the line.
Suddenly, an idea popped into my brain.
"I've got it!" I exclaimed into the phone.
"Got what?" She mumbled, stuffing something into her mouth.
As she chewed, I told her my great idea. "You can come down here! Live with us!"
"Woah woah woah. Hold on there cowgirl. I just suffered heartbreak and haven't even told my parents yet. How do you expect this to happen?"
I rolled my eyes and answered. "Easy. Let them know you wanna live with me until school begins in September. Come on, your parents trust me and my mom. Trust me."
I assumed she was planning on how she would ask and tell her parents about all of this and her heartbreak. She was silent, other than consistent chewing.
Finally, she let out a sigh. "Fine. Ill talk to them later okay?"
"Fine by me." I smiled and imagined her living with me.
"Hey, there's another plus to this." She said, still chewing.
I glanced at the cars passing by. "Which is?"
"I won't be neighbors with Josh anymore."
