"Your appointment is on Thursday." My mom was busy writing important dates on her calendar.
Even though I hated admitting that I couldn't see, I was pretty excited to get contacts. Well kind of. My mom has used them for years so she has already given me a heads up as to what to expect. According to her, they're easy to use. I've seen her put them in and take them out and it has always left me questioning how she didn't scratch her damn eyeballs. One time, Lana told me the story of her cousins contacts. Lets just say that the story left me scarred. She mentioned her cousin ended up getting grease on her contact lenses while cooking. Then she told me how that caused her cousin to trip over the kitchen mat. Yes, I was now paranoid about potentially getting grease in my eyes. I cooked sometimes so the whole contact situation had me a little worried.
"I know," I grumbled as I opened a cabinet above our stove. Scanning the wide selection of canned goods and snacks, I went for a container of sliced oranges and turned my attention back to my mom as I ate. She had her hair up and her glasses on. "How did work go last night?" I asked.
"It went well." Her eyes glanced up at me only once and I could tell she was exhausted.
I patted her shoulder. "It'll get better, I promise."
"Thanks, Hun." She smiled at me and focused her attention back to her calendar.
With nothing to do, I finished my cup of oranges and decided to go for a walk. Surprisingly it was freezing outside. The weather lately had been doing so good but of course Mother Nature had to throw some shade at the world. I was thankful I was wearing a long sleeved t-shirt. It was pretty gloomy and I assumed a storm was on its way. As I began walking down my street the wind started to pick up. Shaking it off, I traveled to the end of my street and took a right. I hadn't ever been this way but I was curious.
Several cats wandered around the street as I went down the side of the road. Rain started coming down and my hair slowly became more wet. I folded my arms, and despite being cold and wet, I still continued walking. In the distance, I could see a group of guys in the street. They looked oddly familiar the closer I got. Trying not to squint, I began to walk faster to get a good look. Finally their voices got clearer.
"Dude, come on. Don't chicken out," Some dark haired guy said. He was facing a shorter guy. They were both pretty bulky and good looking.
"Ashton, I don't think it's a good idea." The shorter guy mumbled.
The dark haired guy, Ashton, stepped forward so that he was inches away from the other guys face. "Paul...." His voice got lower and I could no longer hear what he was saying.
I averted my gaze from the group so that they wouldn't notice me but it was no use.
One of them whispered, "Paul is a chicken. I'll do it then you guys..." His voice trailed off so I decided not to listen in anymore. That was until one of them whistled. My face jerked towards the guys.
"You're Hayley right?" Some guy standing beside Ashton and Paul began walking to me, with his hand out.
Nodding, I went to shake his hand but he just patted my shoulder. "Im Damon." He gave me a daring smile then turned towards the guys, with his hand still on my shoulder.
"Well, I think its time we finally introduce ourselves to Taylor's friend." I couldn't see his face but the other guys smirked and started towards me.
