Midnight slowly rolled around and a lot of people started to leave. I was beyond exhausted to say the least. James was passed out on a couch inside one of the houses. By now, the music was off and the cars were parked in driveways. Bottles of beer were everywhere. Being the clean freak I was, I started picking them up. Walking back and forth for about 30 minutes to throw them away was not my definition of fun but I couldn't stand things being unorganized.
After I was done, I placed both of my hands on my hips, satisfied. I smiled and turned around to walk into the house.
Drag-racing wasn't all that bad. It was thrilling. It managed to make my heart beat faster than ever, for the first time in a long time. Taylor won all rounds which completely shocked me. How could someone be so good at driving a car? He did spins in the road, made skid marks, etc. At one point I could've sworn I saw him smile at me before speeding off.
I didn't know how to explain how he made me feel. His smile was enough to make my mind go crazy. When they were done racing, I watched Taylor get out and walk to the guys. People gave him high fives and everything. He looked proud. Soon after the people settled down, he disappeared somewhere. I couldn't help but wonder where he was.
I entered the house and traveled along the hallways to try and find my wasted friend, James. I tried my best not to wake people knocked out on the floors. The living room was quiet as I looked for James.
"James," I whispered urgently, "James, where the hell are you?" My eyes wandered over all the bodies spread out on the floor and couches.
"He left earlier," The voice from behind me made me jump. Trying not to accidentally trip over someone, I turned on my heel.
There he is, I thought. Mentally, I couldn't help but smile.
Taylor.
"W-what?" I stuttered and tried to cover it up by clearing my throat. "What do you mean?"
Taylor laughed and motioned for me to follow him. As I walked over people, someone started to stir. It made me walk quicker. We exited the living room and made our way outside.
"Now we don't have to whisper." Taylor laughed. He was holding a beer and still wearing his leather clothes. His hair was more messier now and his eyes showed a hint of tiredness.
"So, you said James left?" I glanced away then looked back at Taylor.
He nodded. "Yeah, I believe someone called Ana to pick him up."
It was my turn to nod. "I see. I'm just glad he isn't driving." I let out a laugh.
Taylor smirked, "Yeah. Me too."
It was silent for what seemed like forever. We just stood there, in front of each other, not speaking. Oddly enough, it wasn't uncomfortable. It was......comforting. He took a sip of his beer and let out a breath.
"Do you have a ride home?" He asked. I just stared at him. "Stupid question. Look, I had no idea the guys would force you to come. I just kinda mentioned it'd be awesome if you could make it. I guess they took it too far, huh?"
I laughed. "Yeah, a little too far. You know," I quickly glanced down at my feet, "You could've just asked me to come." I lifted my head to meet his eyes.
He stayed quiet for a bit and I started to wonder if I should've even said what I did.
Suddenly and unexpectedly, he leaned closer and whispered, "Your boyfriend would kill me."
In that moment, I very badly wanted to blurt out that he wasn't my boyfriend but deep down I knew Chad thought of me as his girlfriend. I didn't even know what we were. I literally felt so stupid for calling him that night. Chad didn't give me the same feeling Taylor did.
