Live from Bahrain we are here for the first race of the 2024 season and all eyes are on our two rookies both former f2 champions, Liam Lawson and Lacy Katz.
Now Katz will be making history today the moment lights are out as the first female formula one driver to ever compete in a Grand Prix.
Truly a special day for her, let's take a look at the McLaren garage and see what's going on down there.
Looks as if Katz is running a bit behind as she is just gearing up now.
Unbelievable and lights out is only moments away.
She seems to be in the zone there Crofty, just look at that scowl.
Will she be able to pull through all the way from p7 today?
We'll find out shortly as we are under way here at the Bahrain Grand Prix.
"Let's kill it Lace." Lando says before stepping into his car and to line up on the grid.
I hated the fact that I was late to my first race but of course Dan had to ruin that as well.
So much adrenaline was running through my veins.
My vision was blurred with excitement if that's even possible.
All I could do was focus on my breathing, remember the strategies that I had gone over with myself, and block out the world.
Every time I stepped into my car to race, the world went quiet.
Everything's still and it's like I'm me again.
This is all I ever knew.
I was nothing more than a girl driving a car.
This was practically my identity.
20 drivers all lined up on the grid and their crew begins to disappear.
20 of the world best drivers here on this stage.
My eyes are locked on the red lights in front of me, each circle blinking away before it's a chaotic mess of cars blending together around the first sector.
I managed to overtake Alonso who was lined up in front of me putting me in p6.
I wasn't going to settle for a position in the middle of the grid.
I knew I had been chosen for a reason and it was time to prove that to the world.
The tires were feeling good.
The car was feeling good.
I was feeling good.
Until I wasn't.
The same thing had happened to the car as yesterday. I jerked the car back into position but holy crap that took a lot.
"The hell is going on with the car?" I scream into the mic.
"Looking into it now Lacy." Is the only response I get.
Shit I thought they would fix that before the race today.
Multiple laps go by and I don't get an update as to what is going on.
"Lace can we get a quick mic check?" I hear Tom say to me.
"Nothing happened in the way I wanted every corner of this hou-" I start to sing but am suddenly cut off.
"Lock in Lace."
"I am Tom." I say with a laugh.
"Yellow flag Lace, safety car will be out shortly."
"What happened?"
"Small collision."
"Who?"
I hate this part about racing.
Although it's exhilarating, it's also scary not knowing what could happen each race and if your friends would come out injured.
"Not Lando don't worry. Was between Magnussen and Tsunoda."
"Oh. Ok they alright?"
"All good. This is the perfect opportunity to heave away Lacy."
"Copy."
With a few laps left in this race I knew I would have to push to gain as many points for the team as I could.
After the restart I was trying to figure out a way to be able to overtake Hamilton who I had been inching closer to in p5.
Coming around the final corner on lap 51 I was trying my best to hold on to the car while also overtaking a man who I had looked up to my entire childhood.
"Holy shit Tom we need to fix this fucking car, it should not be this hard to turn around a stupid corner."
"We figured out the issue but stay out until the end of the race we'll figure it out after."
I had managed to move up to p5 kicking Lewis behind me.
Damn my wrists were hurting from this car.
"Is Lando having these issues too?" I say while managing to pass Carlos with the added DRS on this sector.
"No."
"Cute." Is all I manage to say back to him.
Well this race had definitely been an experience I just needed to stay here up in p4 and I would have gained three positions over the whole race, which if you ask me, is pretty impressive for a woman.
"That's p4 Lacy."
I scream into the mic with enthusiasm.
Holy crap life isn't real right now.
I pull back into the garage and all eyes and cameras are on me.
Reporter after reporter wants to interview me but all I wanted to do was go and see how Lando did.
I noticed him pull his car behind the large sign with a 2 in front of it.
As soon as he's out of the car he sprints over to me and wraps me in a warm embrace.
"Oh my gosh Lando you're insane!" I say while squeezing him tighter.
"How'd you place doll?" He says while opening my visor.
"Fourth."
He jumps up and down like a little kid.
I'd never felt so happy in my life.
I know I had just came up short of podium but here I was.
Driver after driver came up to me congratulating me on my first race and then my favourite blonde came over to me holding up three fingers.
"You're kidding."
"Nope I'm on the podium Lacy!"
"I'm so proud of you Liam. Oh my gosh wave to me up on the podium please." I say with a laugh.
I feel a pat on my shoulder and Tom is standing behind me with a concerned look.
"We figured out what was wrong with the car." He says pulling me over to the garage.
"We'll get it fixed before the next race don't worry." He says sticking out his finger for a pinky promise.
"I'd hope so, who knows how I would've done if the car was in perfect shape." I say annoyed.
They better fix it, that's all I have to say.
