"What the hell Tom?!" I say between my teeth arriving back at the garage.
"Later Lacy I'm focusing on the race right now." He practically shushes me.
"What race? Your driver whom you're supposed to be spotting is out of the race."
I try to chase after him but I feel too weak to even walk.
"Are you sure it's the car Lacy?" He stops in his tracks.
I stare at him for a moment, "yes. I am positive."
"I don't know it seems to me that you just can't handle a formula one car."
My breathing becomes deeper as I try to focus my mind on something else, anything else.
He's my spotter. He's supposed to be rooting for me.
"I'm just saying Lace, maybe you'd be better suited for the safety car alright?"
It was literally taking everything in my power to not slap this man across the face.
"I earned that spot and you know it. It's not as if they hired some random driver who's inexperienced. Don't even try to say that I'm the problem, because im not. It's the car. If you don't believe me why don't we take a look." I say stepping over to the torn car.
Tom slides out in front of me cutting me off in my tracks.
"Lacy we need you to get over to the med bay for a second to check you out befor-" our team doctor starts.
"In a minute please." I say sounding defeated as I just want closure as to what the real issue is.
Maybe it was me.
Maybe I'm the problem.
Maybe I'm not cut out to be driving in this high of a level. I know the rest of the world would probably agree with me on that.
"Excuse me Tom but I want to look and see if this is actually a me issue or a technical issue."
"No." Is the only response I get back.
I shake my head to try and understand what the hell is going on?
"What you hiding something with the car?" I scoff with sarcasm.
He looks away from me.
"Oh my gosh you're hiding something." I whisper in a low tone.
I run past him taking a deep dive into my orange 72 car and inspect the hell out of it until my eyes wander over the steering axis.
There's no way this could have been brushed over by the engineers.
Especially by Tom who also happens to be our head engineer.
And then it hits me, "you did this."
"What?" He stares at me.
"This isn't some coincidence. You tampered with the car. I could have seriously been injured today."
We just stare at each other as I try to regain balance on my feet from all that is happening.
"You don't deserve to be here Lacy." Is the only response I receive before he walks away submerging into a crowd of other engineers leaving me alone in that stupid garage.
I stagger over to the med bay where the world seems a little blurry.
Doctors are talking to me but all I can think about is how someone would ever do such a thing.
Who am I supposed to tell?
What am I even supposed to say?
Do I go to the FIA? Would they even care?
