Chapter 8

Time to Fly

Zara woke up and thought it was all a dream, but a smile comes on her face. Zara slipped out of bed and to the mirror. She turned and smiled seeing the orange dragon relic that went from her neck across her shoulders and the tails wraps down her spine.

'I'm a rider.' Zara thought.

'You are, Fire One.' Adish said. Zara got ready for the day. Zara throws her hair up in a braid. Zara stepped out to see everyone heading down. Zara puts her last dagger in the holder and heads down to the lunchroom.

"Hey." Zara turned to see Bodhi running up to her.

"Now your talking to me?" Zara asked. Bodhi came up to her.

"Thought you want someone to walk with. Where's your dragon relic?" Bodhi asked as they walked.

"On my back. It takes up most of it. Where's Cuir's on yours?" Zara asked. Garrick was heading their way.

"Same place." Bodhi said.

"Hey. We're being called to the General's office. All three of us." Garrick said. Zara looked at Garrick.

"Why?" Zara asked. Garrick shrugged. Zara's stomach growled and she groaned. Garrick chuckled.

"Let's go." Bodhi said. Garrick led the way towards the stairs to head down to where the offices of Command were. Zara wondered why all three of them were wanted in the office.

'Sounds like its nothing to be worried about.' Adish said. Zara felt Bodhi at her back, but came next to her. Garrick slowed when he got to General Sorrengail's office door and waited for them. His eyes watched Zara as her and Bodhi catch up to him. Garrick knocked on the door and they stepped in.

"Travis, Durran, Tauri." Sorrengail said. Her eyes softened at Zara. The General saw her and her brothers grow up. "I'm impressed, Tauri. You made it further then your brother."

"Thank you General." Zara said.

"You been called back home for four days in the coming week." The General said. Bodhi and Garrick stiffened. Zara looked confused.

"Why? I'm bonded to a dragon. I'm not one of the unbonded." Zara said.

"Its only for four days and your father knows your bonded. Your brother wants you home for his birthday." The General said. Zara realized with how long she's been here that it was getting close to Halden's birthday.

"Why are we here, General?" Garrick asked.

"Your dragons are mates and from what Riorson has told us that mates can't be seperated more then three days. You have permission to go with her." The General said. The three looked at each other. "Will that be an issue?"

"No, General." The three said.

"Good. You leave in a week." The General said. Zara stepped out followed by the boys.

"I was not expecting that." Bodhi said.

"What did you mean about you being an unbonded?" Garrick asked.

"Father said he wouldn't let me repeat if I didn't bond." Zara said. Garrick frowned. "It was either I join the Rider Quadrant or I was being married off. I don't want to be forced to marry someone I didn't know or loved." Zara wouldn't put it past her father to still try after she graduates.

"Marriage contract." Bodhi said as they head back to the Rider Quadrant.

"Yes." Zara whispered. Garrick was walking behind the two and Zara didn't see the frown. They arrived in the courtyard.
