Chapter 17
Aftermath of Attack

Bodhi was right. Zara's neck was pretty bruised up from the attack last night when Garrick and Bodhi woke her up. Violet looked just as bad. Zara had gone to a healer for her throbbing headache as she stood in formation for the death roll. Her and Violet's attackers names were on the roll. Zara rubbed her neck a bit.

"We commend their souls to Malek." Fitzgibbons said as he finished. People were looking at the girls bruises. Zara didn't care. Her head was still throbbing a bit, but was not as bad as this morning.

"I can't believe they tried to kill you both while you were sleeping." Rhiannon seethes. Zara and Violet had explained the attacks at breakfast. They had been confused when Bodhi had joined them for breakfast. Garrick had kept looking over from the Command table.

"Even worse, I think I'm getting used to it." Violet said.

"I don't understand why they attacked me. Adish would scorch any other person that tried to bond with him." Zara said.

'They are lucky you and Section Leader killed them. I would of roasted them.' Adish said. Fitzgibbons makes some minor announcements. Zara saw movement out of the corner of her eyes as Xaden heads for their Squad. Xaden stops in front of Dain. He looks at Violet then back at Dain.

"Thre's a change to your Squad roll." Xaden said.

"Wingleader?" Dain asked. Zara raises an eyebrow. "We just absorbed four from the dissolution of the third squad."

"Yes." Xaden said. He looks to the right where Second Squad, Tail Section stands at attention. "Beiden, we're making a roll change."

"Yes, sir." The Squad Leader nods.

"Aetos, Vaughn Penley will be leaving your command, and you'll be gaining Liam Mairi from Tail Section." Xaden said. The two first-year riders exchange places. Liam nods at Xaden and Violet didn't look happy. Zara realized he was a marked one.

"Well shit." Zara whispered as Violet glares at Xaden.

"I do not need a bodyguard." Violet snaps at Xaden. Zara bit her lip.

'I swear if you two are on his side with me having a bodyguard you can sleep out in the hall.' Zara told Bodhi and Garrick down the bond. There was no response but Zara saw Garrick flinch. 'Yep. You both are sleeping in the hall.' Xaden ignores Violet.

"Liam is statistically the strongest first-year in the quadrant. He has the fastest time up the Gauntlet, hasn't lost a single challenge, and is bonded to an exceptionally strong Red Daggertail. Any squad would be lucky to have him, and he's all yours, Aetos. You can thank me when you win the Squad Battle in the Spring." Liam steps into formation behind Violet.

"I. Do. Not. Need. A. Bodyguard." Violet repeats, a little louder.

"And I swear if you think I do, then your wrong Riorson." Zara said, glaring at Xaden. "I didn't escape the life of royalty to be stuck with a bodyguard." One of the first-years gasps. Imogen snorts.

"Good luck with that approach." Imogen whispered. Xaden walks past Dain and stands in front of Violet and Zara, both girls glaring at him.

"You both do, though, as we learned last night. And Garrick, Bodhi, and I can't be everywhere you two are. Garrick and Bodhi might sleep in your room at times Zara, but not all the time." Dain's eyes widen at Xaden's words. Zara ignored him on that. "But Liam here." Xaden points back at Liam. "He's a first-year, so he can be in every class, at every challenge, and I even had him assigned to library duty, so I hope you get used to him, Sorrengail, Tauri."
