Chapter 21

More Truth

Garrick got out of bed way early one morning for a meeting. He turned to see Zara and Bodhi still sleeping. He smiled as he sat on the bed to pull on his boots. Zara grabbed his arm as he goes to stand up.

"Get back in bed." Zara whispered.

"I have a meeting or I would. Go back to sleep. You got a couple hours to sleep." Garrick said. He pressed a kiss to her head. Zara gave a pout. "Just go to sleep."

"Fine." Zara grumbled. Garrick chuckled as Zara turned and snuggled deeper into Bodhi, who wrapped her tighter in his arms as Garrick slipped out of Zara's room. Garrick hated leaving the bed, but Bodhi was with her so he knew she was safe from unbonded. Plus he knew Adish would yell at him if something happened.

Zara woke to Bodhi kissing her forehead.

"Time to get up." Bodhi said. Zara stretched as Bodhi got out of bed. Zara grabbed her clothes and put them on as Bodhi got ready. The door opened and Garrick popped his head in.

"Morning." Zara said as she pulled on her boots. Garrick smiled. Zara could get use to them sleeping in her room with her.

"Let's get in formation." Garrick said. Bodhi and Garrick held out their hands and Zara took them and they pulled her up. Zara took their arms and they head out in the hall. People waved and said hi as they passed. They were use to the three together. Zara smiled as she greeted them back. They stood in line breakfast. Garrick and Bodhi were talking some command stuff and Zara ignored them. It wasn't something she was interested in. Zara got her food and went to join her squad. Violet and Liam were still doing Library duty. Zara slid into the seat next to Ridoc and Rhiannon. Zara picked up her mug that had her coffee in it and took a long drink.

"Long night?" Rhiannon asked. Zara just hummed with a smile on the edge of her mug. Garrick and Bodhi defintly kept her up all night. Rhiannon chuckled.

"I am jealous that you got two men fawning over you." Ridoc said. Zara put down her mug and looked at Ridoc with a smirk.

"I'm sure if you ask any girl in the Quadrant, I'm sure you could sleep with more then one with your good looks. Don't expect it from me, because I don't think Bodhi and Garrick will share me with you." Zara said. Imogen choked on her food as Sawyer laughed. Ridoc looked offended. Zara dug into her food. Imogen gave Zara a smile. Zara's eyes wondered towards the command table. Garrick and Xaden were talking. As if he felt her watching, Garrick looked at her and smiled. Zara returned it.

Battle Brief. Zara sat with Sawyer and Ridoc as they sat waiting for it to start. Liam was sitting with Violet and Rhiannon. Garrick and Bodhi were sitting with their years. Zara reached for their bond.

'You guys coming to my room tonight?' Zara asked.

'I have to help Xaden preparing for a weapon run. We leave tomorrow night.' Garrick said.

'I'll be there tonight.' Bodhi said. Zara smiled. 'But not tomorrow.'

'That's fine. Now that I know what you guys are doing.' Zara said. Zara relaxed back in her seat as Markham stood at the front of the room, placing a scroll on the desk.

"If we can get started?" Markham calls. Everyone goes silent. "Excellent." Zara grabs her quill.

"First announcement." Devera steps forward. "We've decided that not only will the winners of this year's Squad Battle receive bragging rights.." She smiles. "But they'll also be given a trip to the front lines to shadow an active wing." Zara's eyes widen as cheers break out around them.

"So if we win, we get a chance to die sooner?" Rhiannon whispers on Sawyer's other side.

"That's a treat." Zara whispered.

'Gets you out of the college for awhile.' Adish said in her mind. Zara smirked.

'We have to win that first.' Zara reminded him. Adish huffed. 'Can you work with other dragons? Or are you like the other oranges?' A growl filled her head.

'I can work well with others, Firey One.' Adish growled. Zara just smirked.

"I know the Squad Battle doesn't commence until Spring. But I figured that news would give you all the proper motivation to apply yourselves in every area leading up to the challenges." Devera said. A cheer comes up.

"And now that we have your attention." The room quiets as Markham lifts his hands. "The front lines are relatively quiet today, so we're going to take this opportunity to dissect the Battle of Gianfar." The mage lights rise to the Cliffs of Dralor that separate Tyrrendor, lifting the entire province thousands of feet above the rest of the Continent. It shined the brightest on the ancient stronghold along the southern border. "This battle was pivotal to the unification of Navarre, and through it happened more than six centuries ago, there are important lessons that still impact our flight formations to this day."

"What made this battle unique?" Devera asked. She looked around. "Bryant?"

"The stronghold was not only set for a siege, but was equipped with the first cross-bolt, which proved lethal against dragonkind." A second year said.

"Yes. And?" Devera asked.

"It was one of the final battles where gryphons and dragons actually worked alongside each other to annihilate the army of the Barrens." The second year continues. Zara quickly wrote the stuff down. Zara had a feeling they were hiding stuff now that she knew what the Marked Ones were doing. Liam and Violet were whispering about something, but Zara kept silent.

"Now, pay close attention." Markham lectures. "Because you'll be turning in a detailed report in three days and drawing comparisons to battles from the last twenty years." The class went on. Zara let her mind wonder.

That night. Zara and Bodhi laid curled up together after a few rounds. Zara's leg was wrapped around Bodhi as his fingers ran through her red hair. Zara nuzzled his neck, content. If one of the men couldn't be with her, the other was with her. Zara never complained. She loved spending time with them. And when both couldn't. Zara spent her time with Violet talking and laughing.

"So why is Adish mad at you?" Bodhi asked.

"He told you?" Zara asked, looking at him. Bodhi chuckled.

"Cuir said he's been snapping at anyone that gets close to him including the oranges." Bodhi said.

"I asked if he can work with others or is he like the other oranges." Zara said. Bodhi chuckled as the door opens and Zara looks up to see Garrick standing there.

"You do know Adish is an elder of the Oranges." Garrick said as if he was listened or Chadh told him.

"Wait what?" Zara asked as Garrick came up to the bed. Zara sat up, letting the blanket fall from her body. Garrick's eyes roam her body and a smile came to his face.

"He is the eldest dragon of all the oranges. Its why he is calmer and puts the oranges in line. Jack's dragon hates him." Garrick said.

'You could of told me.' Zara scolded Adish.

'You didn't need to know yet.' Adish said.

"Your his second rider." Bodhi said.

"What happened to his first?" Zara asked.

"It's a long story, but she was killed by Venin." Garrick said. Zara's eyes widen. "It was an unexpected attack. That's why Adish has been hard on you with flying." Zara nodded. Garrick pulled two daggers with the Tyrrish Runes on it. "As promised." Zara smiled and took them in her hands.

"Thank you." Zara said. Zara grabbed his shirt and pulled him on the bed, kissing him hard.
