Chapter Nine

Coulson and I watched through the windows of the van as Antoine walked up to an older barber shop. We were all now in Cuba, trying to hunt down Ward and his team. Antoine, Coulson, May, Skye, and I were all looking in town while Leo and Jemma were off in search of the Bus.

"We're too late." Coulson shook his head as Antoine headed back towards our van. "They're gone."

"They knew we were coming." May frowned.

"I'm not sure everyone's gone." Skye told us. "Something's generating a lot of volts in there."

"So it's not Ward's heart." I commented as Coulson's phone buzzed and he pulled it out, putting it on speaker.

"Yeah?" He answered.

"Sir, we found the bus." Jemma's voice filled the van. "It's on an airfield outside Abel Santamaria, they're packing up to leave."

"We're on our way." Coulson told her. "How far is that from our location?"

"About three hours," she told us, "but by the looks of it, they'll be long gone by the time you can get here, sir."

"Get out of there right now." Coulson ordered her. "Do not engage. Wait for us back at the jump jet."

"Copy that, sir." Jemma hung up as Antoine got back in the van.

"Garrett's leaving." Couslon filled him in.

"We have to at least try and get over there." May told him and I nodded in agreement.

"Or not. We still have this little puppy." Skye pulled out her flash drive. "If there's a computer system in that barber shop, we don't have to chase him anymore. We just plug it in, we wake up the trojan horse, and we're off to the races."

"Worth a shot." Antoine agreed with her.

"Let's do it." Coulson nodded before looking at me. "Nic, I want to head to the airfield. You can get there quicker, possibly before Garrett leaves. Don't engage them, but if you can get a tracker on the Bus then do it. Then meet up with the rest of us at jump jet with Fitz and Simmons."

"On it." I nodded before jumping out of the van. Without even bothering to make sure no one was looking I focused on the air, sending me flying high into the sky.

〰〰〰

It took me less than half an hour to reach the airfield and when I got there the Bus was still there on the ground, but so was the car Leo and Jemma had been using.

"Shit." I swore as I landed outside a small shack about a hundred yards from the Bus. I walked inside to find a couple pairs of binoculars and Leo's phone, Jemma and Leo were nowhere in sight. "Oh shit!"

"You could say that again." Ward's voice filled the air as I started to pull out my phone. I spun around on my heels, ready to freeze his ass, but before I could something sharp stung me in the shoulder, followed by something in the side.

I collapsed to the floor to see a small knife in my shoulder and what looked like a dart in my side. I looked up to see Ward now crouching over me, a smug look on his face.

"I wouldn't bother trying to use your powers." He told me as a few men came into the shack behind him. "That dart contains enough drugs to keep them controlled for twelve hours, at least. It's a weaker version of the cure the government came up with back in o-six. Would have used that, but it seems as if the formula for it was stolen before we could get ahold of it."

"You asshole." I glared at him as he got back to his feet.

"Now, where are your manners." He kicked me sharp in the gut before nodding to the other men. They came over and pulled me up to my feet by my arms, causing me to hiss from the pain in my shoulder.
