Fury had found Athalia a place to stay when she had decided to come back to Earth. A secret place. A safe house. With the public of Earth not knowing that she's back from space, besides the people who work at S.H.I.E.L.D., she spent her days with a face that doesn't belong to her. She sifted her appearance, giving herself a similar face to one she saw in a magazine so that people who lived near her wouldn't know that they had an avenger living next door.
The idea was Nick's. The idea of having someone else's face felt strange to Athalia. Sure, it was an easy practice to do, simple magic that she used to use when pulling pranks on Thor or Loki. Thor used to believe that she was a different person, the culpable fool he was, but Loki, also knew and saw through her jokes, him being able to do the same thing himself.
Maybe that's why it felt strange to her now. Having the reminder of fun times as a child when you are no longer surrounded by some of the people held dear to you. However, when she did get a glimpse of her natural appearance, she felt this overwhelming sadness when she realised how similar she and Loki actually looked.
Athalia had left S.H.I.E.L.D. not long after Steve had stormed out. She returned to her safe house, or more like a safe apartment, flicking the lights on as she sat at the dining table. A pile of information she'd found about the damage Loki had caused in New York haunted her, but she knew that if she wanted to find the sceptre, she needed to look over everything she could get her hands on.
A vibration was felt around her wrist. Confused, she looked down at the bracelet on her wrist, the one that was connected to the beeper she'd given Fury when she was leaving New York. One of the beads glowed. Dropping everything that she was doing, Athalia teleported to Fury. When she arrived, she was met with Steve, holding his shield and dragging a shot and bloodied Nick Fury, across his floor.
"You got here quickly," Fury coughed out when he saw the girl standing in the living room. Athalia moved quickly towards the two men, helping Steve get him around the corner.
"I can teleport," She said bluntly, squatting next to him. Her hand hovered over the era where he'd been wounded, the purple glow leaving her hand as she attempted to heal his bullet wounds. "What happened?" She asked as she looked up at Steve. He looked out the window, and then back down at the two on the ground when Fury gripped his arm.
"Don't trust anyone," he said weakly, putting a hard drive into the cap's hand. A loud bang at the door followed Fury's words. Bang, Bang, Bang. The noise echoed around the apartment until the door was busted open. Intimidated, a dagger formed in Athalia's free hand.
"Captain Rogers?" A woman's voice called through the apartment, "Captain, I'm Agent 13 of S.H.I.E.L.D. Special Service."
"Kate?" Steve said her name, confused as he looked at her from around the corner. The dagger from Athalia's hand disarmed. She focused her attention back on Fury who now lay unconcise on the wooden floor.
"I'm assigned to protect you."
"On who's order?"
The agent looked down at Fury. "His," He wasn't dead. At least not yet. Athalia was making sure of that. It was a lot of work to keep someone inches from death alive, but with the sense of Deja Vu that the goddess was feeling, she was determined to keep him alive.
"Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMTs." the lady spoke into a walkie-talkie.
"Do we have a 20 on the shooter?" the dispatcher asked. Steve looked around the corner and out the window. He saw a flash, a movement in the darkness outside.
"Tell him, I'm in pursuit," he said, holding his shield tightly. Athalia glanced back at him and watched as he made a run towards the window. Jumping through it and breaking the glass, Steve jumped across the street, landing in the building that the shooter was in.
"You need to move," The agent snapped at Athalia once Steve was gone.
"Don't tell me what to do, I'm keeping him alive." Athalia snapped back, "Do you want your boss to be dead? Do you have the power to keep him alive?"
[Amber's little chats; ⚠IMPORTANT MESSAGE! PLEASE READ!⚠ Hello my lovely readers, I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I know that I have enjoyed writing and reading your comments. I am sorry that I didn't post last week and that this week you have a short chapter, but this story is going to be on pause/hold until June. I am doing this for a reason, not because I don't care about the story. I am really stressed with Uni assignments having a lot due this month alone. Mixing this with work, my mental health, writing chapters and updating every week, I think I'll explode. So, I am giving myself a break, until things calm down. I hope you all can understand my reasoning.]
