Past- 1 week after the fight (2025)
I heard the sound of her high heels against the concrete signalling her approach before she rounded the corner and came into view.
"Hi, Sam", she said softly as she took a seat across from me.
I breathed in her perfume, closing my eyes briefly before meeting my gaze with hers.
"Thanks for meeting me, Candice", I began, "I owe you an apology".
She nodded, her eyes narrowed on me.
I took a sip of my whiskey before beginning. "I'm sorry, really sorry. What happened the other night at the club shouldn't have happened, you didn't need to witness that side of me".
She remained quiet so I continued "I'm over her", I paused waiting to see her reaction. She nodded once, "Skye was part of me a long time ago but I've moved on now. Seeing you upset the other night after the fight made me realise that I need to start fresh and I'd like to start fresh with you".
"So you're completely over her?" she finally asked.
"Yeah, I mean...I'm trying Candice. If you want me to change for you I will", I spoke carefully, now taking one of her delicate hands in mine.
"Sam...", her voice low now, "What happened between you two?". I shook my head, avoiding her eyes now.
"We don't need to talk about it", I said.
"Well, we do if you want me to trust you again", she demanded, her eyes serious now as she took a small sip of her drink.
I sighed heavily. "Let's go for a walk", I said, my hand now coaxing her up from her chair.
We walked in silence along the path, the harbour in front of us glistening.
I stopped and turned to face her now. "I failed her. I promised to look after her and I betrayed her. She trusted with me with everything but I fucked up", I admitted.
Candice's hand edged up towards my cheek and she planted a soft kiss on me. My heart tensed at her touch.
"Just promise me...", she began, her eyes now focused into mine, "that you won't do the same to me and you won't fuck me over", she spoke.
My jaw clenched and nodded, my forehead gently towards hers, I closed my eyes "I promise", I spoke softly, letting out a sigh. Her face arched up towards mine now, "kiss me", she whispered. My eyes met with hers and the memory of Skye's face flashed briefly before dissipating into the darkness. I reached my hand up to her jawline, planting a soft kiss onto her lips. I could feel her smile as I kissed her and she let out a small giggle. "I'm not sure if you won that fight", she said, a small chuckle erupted from her. I smiled back, remembering the blood pooling out of my face, "I think it was a tie", I finally responded. She took my hand in hers and we quietly wandered along the harbour together, my mind and heart praying I could keep my promise for Candice's sake. And for Skye's sake.
