Brooklyn's POV
It was Sunday, the day that they announce the winners of the competition. I really hope that I win the competition partly because I want to do it for my girls and because they worked so hard but partly because I want to see the look on Tanner's face when I beat his ass.
Me and Hannah and the girls walked into the rally room and sat down. "Okay girls no matter what happens it's ok but I hope we win" I tell them. Hannah interrupts "but it's not about winning it-" "no, it is about winning", I say. "Ok part of it is about winning but it's about how much fun you have" she says.
The rally starts and the campers play a couple of games but I can't stop thinking about beating tanner.
I'm sitting down watching the kids when Tanner comes up and sits beside me. God his t-shirt is perfectly tight on him and his tattoo is peeking out the end of his sleeve.
"Just so you know, be ready for Wesley to call my name for first place" he leans over and whispers. "Oh Wesley will be calling your name alright for last place" I say. He laughs "okay whatever you say sweetheart". Damn it gets me every single time. The freaking butterflies.
"Well I better go sit down so I can hear my name being called" he says and then stands up. "Don't forget to hear the last behind it."
Wesley stands up and grabs the microphone to announce the winner. "I hope you guys have had a great time in this first week at Camp Willing. Are you guys ready to hear the winners of the competition?" the crowd cheers. "Alright, In third place........Cabin Corbin" Corbin's cabin yells and Tanner gives him a high five.
"In second place.....is........Cabin.....Tanner"
Tanner's cabin jumps up and screams and yells and gives each other fists bump's and high fives. That only means one thing: either we got first place or last. I hope it's not last.
"And the team who won the Camp Willing Summer '23 Cabin Competition is..............Cabin.......Brooklyn.
We jumped up out of our seats and screamed. My whole cabin was so excited we all went in for a group hug and sat back down.
I looked over to see Tanner. He was clapping for me. But I didn't feel the pride and joy that I thought would come out of beating Tanner.
"Well, Well, Well" Tanner said walking up to the gazebo it was 12:30 and everyone else I thought was asleep. "What are you doing?" I asked. "I could ask you the same thing. I had to come see the winning counselor" he said and sat down beside me.
"You did really well , at least you didn't get last place" I said. "I still think I did better than you and that competition was rigged" he playfully punched me in the shoulder. "Hey, I'm not a little girl that you can play your little tricks on" I say
It slipped out, I shouldn't have said that. What did I do?
His smile faded away into a straight face when I said it.
"You remember?" He says a slight smile comes back on his face.
WHAT, he remembers.
"You remember, I thought you forgot about me" I say.
"What, how could I ever forget about you, your not just some girl to forget"
Omg it happens again. My stomach fills with butterflies and I become jello.
"How come you never said anything?" I ask him.
"Because I thought you wouldn't remember"
"How could I forget my best friend in the entire world" I say
