VESTA'S POV
The negative pregnancy test result was still sinking in as I walked back to my apartment building. Part of me felt relieved, knowing Miguel and I could postpone that huge life step for a while longer. But another part carried a twinge of disappointment - I did want kids eventually, just not quite yet at 23.
Miguel was leaning against his car, thumbing through his phone when I approached. He looked up and his face broke into that warm, crooked smile that had first caught my eye at the campus gym over a year ago.
"There you are! I was getting worried." He pulled me into a tight hug, his solid frame enveloping me. "So? The test was...?"
I nodded against his chest. "No. It's negative ."
He sighed a heave or relief. At this point, we were at the same perk, wanting no kids.
" Oh thank god. I mean not that I wouldn't want kids with you eventually, love. You know I do. But we've got so much going on right now with University and work."
Miguel is a most composed guy I've ever met. At the age of 24, he already has a 9-5 job as soon as he graduated. He's a year older than me which makes me 23yrs at age. And I'm yet to graduate. 6 months afar.
"I know, I know." I patted his back reassuringly. "Believe me, I'm relieved too. This timing wouldn't have been ideal at all."
He smiled again and leaned down to kiss me. His hand cradled my jaw, calloused thumb grazing my cheek. I melted into his affection, the butterflies still present over a year into dating. When we finally broke apart, Miguel rested his forehead against mine.
"I don't know what I'd do without you, Ves. You're my world."
I felt my cheeks warm at his sweet words. Miguel was the biggest romantic sap, and I secretly loved it. The hopelessly affectionate guy was a perfect counterbalance to my more reserved, cynical nature. We complimented each other in the best way.
"Okay, enough with the sappiness, you big dork." I grinned, poking his chest lightly. "I'm starving after being poked and prodded at the doctor's office. Can we please go get food?"
"You read my mind." He opened the car door for me gallantly. "I made our dinner reservations at that new Italian place downtown you've been wanting to try."
