VESTA'S POV
The door to Taehyung's hospital cabin clicks shut behind us. I watch as he moves to his desk, rifling through a stack of papers. He said he had to grab a few files before we head back.
"Just need to grab some files." he explains.
I nodded, taking in the details of his cabin for the third time now. It is how it was just back when I came here the last time, neat and organized.
A bookshelf lines one wall, filled with medical texts and journals. On his desk, beside a sleek computer monitor, sits a small potted plant.
My eyes are drawn to a framed photo on his desk. It's of Taehyung, looking a few years younger, standing proudly in his white coat. His smile is wide and genuine, full of hope and ambition. I can't help but smile at the sight. I notied the desk plate that I had seen months ago when I had come here for the first time , all nervous.
Dr. Kim Taehyung Triple board certified. Field of Obstetrics and gynaecology.
Curiosity piques me."Taehyung," I say, pointing to the plate, "what does 'triple board certified' mean exactly? And how did you manage to achieve that?"
Taehyung follows my gaze. " In the medical field, board certification is a way to demonstrate expertise in a particular specialty. It involves rigorous training and examinations beyond just getting a medical degree."
I nodded, encouraging him to continue.
"Now, triple board certification means I'm certified in three related but distinct specialties." Taehyung elaborates. "In my case, it's Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility."
My eyes widen. "Thats- insane. How long did all that take?"
Taehyung chuckles softly. "It was quite a journey. After medical school, I did a four-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. That's the first certification. Then I did a three-year fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine That's the second certification."
"And the third?" I asked, fascinated by this glimpse into his professional journey.
"The third was another three-year fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. "
I do some quick mental math. "So that's- 10yrs after medical school?"
Taehyung nods. "About that, yes. It was a long road, but each specialty complements the others. It allows me to be the head of the department. "
"What the fuck actually. How on earth did you study for twelve long years ? " This man literally passed his 20s studying and studying. "But why go through all that? Wouldn't one specialty have been enough?"
Taehyung's expression turns thoughtful. "It would have been, for many. But I've always been driven to understand the full picture. If I'm into something, Im driven into his depth. There's no in between. "
