TAEHYUNG'S POV
I was standing under the lodge's covered porch, trying to finish up a work call despite the terrible network here. The rain was coming down hard, creating a constant background noise that made it hard to hear.
"Yes, I understand. I'll review the patient's files as soon as I'm back in the hospital until then manage up." I said, pacing back and forth.
That's when I saw her.
Vesta, running out of the lodge like she was being chased by something. Her hair was plastered to her face. She didn't even seem to notice the rain as she sprinted towards the woods.
"I'm sorry, I'll have to call you back later." I said hurriedly into the phone, ending the call without waiting for a response.
Something was wrong. Very wrong. I glanced at my watch, it was past midnight. What on earth was this girl doing running into the forest at this hour, in this weather?
Without thinking, I stepped out into the rain, calling her name. "Vesta! Vesta, wait!"
But she either couldn't hear me over the storm or was choosing to ignore me. I started running after her, my shoes squelching in the mud. The rain was so heavy I could barely see a few feet in front of me.
"Vesta !" I called again, louder this time. "Where are you going? It's not safe!"
I followed her into the woods, branches whipping at my face as I pushed through. I was getting worried now. It would be so easy to get lost out here, especially in this weather.
Finally, I saw a shape ahead , a small timber frame pavilion. And there was Vesta, hunched over.
I approached slowly, not wanting to startle her. "Vesta?" I said softly, reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder.
What happened next caught me completely off guard. Vesta whirled around and shoved me, hard. I stumbled backward, nearly losing my footing on the slick ground.
"Vesta, it's me! It's Taehyung!" I said, holding up my hands.
She blinked, seeming to come back to herself. "Dr. Kim?" she said, her voice barely audible over the rain. "I- I'm sorry, I didn't realize"
Now that I could see her face, I realized she had been crying. Her eyes were red and there was a look of raw pain there that made my heart clench.
"What happened?" I asked gently, taking a step closer. "Why are you out here?"
Vesta wiped at her eyes furiously, turning away from me. "It's nothing," she said, her voice hoarse. "Just leave, Dr. Kim. Please."
I was taken aback by her response. This wasn't the Vesta I knew. Something was clearly very wrong. "Vesta, you're soaking drenched in the rain, crying and alone in the woods in the middle of the night. You're anything but fine. Please, tell me what's going on."
